58mm seems reasonable to me, too much nonsense about 40mm being the sweet spot.

Bit big for my wrist, but wears smaller than the 80mm case might suggest.
Does that giant case contain an actual movement? Or is just for display?

It's a basic quartz 3 hander with dummy pushers/crown/subdials - it's just a desk clock, so it's no more complicated than a dealer clock.

Bit disappointed that it ticks (quite loudly, in fact) rather than sweeps - I might take a look at the movement tomorrow...

My Monaco wall clock sweeps rather than ticks. And it's not loud at all.

Wasn't comparing the sweep/noise, just the complexity. Most dealership clocks sweep. The movement is a lot larger than the one in this desk clock, and sweep movements use more power - wall clocks like yours usually use a single AA battery, but this uses a large watch battery (not even a lithium cell)
