I have now gathered some information here on the forum. Interesting story. This model completely passed me by.

Are you trying to build one? This thread might be of help:
No, I'm not going to. Perhaps someone is interested in the watch case. Waiting to see what the final offer will be. Maybe I'll buy it. Still nice to have a TH prototype failure in my collection.

Picked up this 32 page catalogue from yesteryear on Ebay. Pretty cool.
Great find! 👍

Is it a reprint? If not, it must've been stored sealed in an airconditioned vault. The condition looks new, amazing for a catalogue that's around 50 years old.

Not sure if it's a reprint.
It is in very good condition. My only thought may be that it has been found in storage somewhere.

Nice pick up! I have the same one and wondered the same thing. Is the condition of it too good to be real? With mine the pages are somewhat thick with a very matte finish, definitely not glossy. Also, the pictures are a bit blurry as well, but then again this is from the '70s so...
Enjoy! 👍

Finding one in pristine condition is one thing, but two? Seems unlikely to be coincidence. But who knows? 🤷‍♂️

I have several books and magazines from the early and mid 70s, rarely read, left on a bookcase. There's always some yellowing that occurs on the white pages. Then there's the sniff test, very old books and magazines have a certain smell. Newer printed stuff has a different smell.

I got mine a few years ago. Definitely has an older type stench to it. With broad and thick staples, like you can’t buy anymore, binding it all together. But still, is it really authentic and from that era?
Oh and btw Anthony, also ebay and mine came from Los Angeles.

Mine is very similar to yours.
Same thick staples. Mine came in plastic sleeve so maybe it was preserved like that?

Very cool!

If it passed the sniff test, it's probably not a fresh reprint. OnTheDash (@Jeff Stein) has this '72 Chronograph Catalog on-line: http://www.onthedash.com/document/1972-chronograph-catalog/

Here's OTD's picture of the page with the Ferrari 312PB (Car no. 10, driven by Ronnie Peterson). Looks very similar, even the staples. Although the position of the upper staple looks a little higher compared to yours; the staple is centered on the darkened tire mark on the road, on yours its half on the tire mark, half below. Also, I noticed the right edge of the car is more cut off on yours, the picture on OTD has slightly more of the car at the very edge, you can tell by the yellow decal above the headlight.

In addition, the back of the catalogue on OTD has the yellowing I'd expect on paper from 53 years ago. Which amazingly seems lacking on yours and Anthony's. So with these differences, it's unclear if they're 70s originals.

Either way, I paid less than 40 bucks and am quite happy with the info and images within it. Back in the day it used to pop up once or twice a year. Not sure about lately though.
