I think they should consider adding a rotating illuminated bezel with touch capabilities. That way they could light or change the color of specific numbers to denote specific events, timers, etc..
According to the latest wearables report from IDC, advanced wearables like watches are finally coming into their own as mass market devices.
Slowly but surely, the watches are taking over.
With increased interest from the medical industry, and features like GPS and health tracking becoming standard on wearables, smartwatches are beginning to dominate the wearable technology market.
According to the latest report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), wearable shipments over the past couple of months grew 10.3 percent year over year even though the market for basic wearables (those that do not run third party apps like most Fitbit trackers) declined 0.9 percent.
Smartwatches are booming, as that market grew 60.9 percent with Apple and the Apple Watchleading the way. The Apple Watch saw an impressive 49.7 percent year over year growth. And competition is growing in that field, with Fitbit planning their Ionic watch for an October release, Samsung unveiling their Gear Sport watch on Wednesday and Google teaming up with fashion designers to spice up watches running their Android Wear software.
Ramon Llamas, the research manager for IDC's wearables team, attributed the change to specialized features like advanced medical tracking. "Smartwatches recorded double-digit year-over-year growth, with much of that increase attributable to a growing number of models aimed at specific market segments," he said. "These products are offering solutions to problems other than simply reporting data, and gaining traction."
Apple declined CNET's request for comment.
Any predictions on what next Tag heuer connected would include ?
Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything.
That said, I hope we get the new Qualcomm chip, a built-in speaker to answer calls, and a better bezel that improves the look of the top/bottom caps.
Huawei has been an important part of Google's Wear OS ecosystem, having released watches like the Huawei Watch and Huawei Watch 2, and today a leak has revealed a new Huawei smartwatch that's in the works.
The Huawei Watch GT has leaked. This new smartwatch features a 1.39-inch round AMOLED, says a report from WinFuture.de, along with NFC, GPS, a compass, accelerometer, and 4GB of storage. Also expected to be included is the latest version of Wear OS.
Powering the Huawei Watch GT is a 420mAh battery. It's said that with a special power-saving mode, you can get up to 14 days of battery life with the Huawei Watch GT before you need to charge it. It's said that this long battery life could be due to the inclusion of Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, but it's unclear if that chipset is actually included.
The Huawei Watch GT is said to be waterproof and it'll reportedly be available in two versions: a Classic or Fashion model and a Sport version.
It's rumored that the Huawei Watch GT will launch alongside the Huawei Mate 20 phones. While still unofficial, this looks like a nice smartwatch, offering a classy-looking case with large metal buttons and a design that's reminiscent of a nice analog watch. If this device does come to market with the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, it could be a great option for anyone that wants a new Wear OS smartwtch.
Qualcomm recently unveiled its new Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor and promised that a wave of smartwatches equipped with its new platform will be launched on the market by the end of the year.
One of the brands that have been mentioned by Qualcomm last month is Louis Vuitton, a company that's certainly not strange to the smartwatch industry. Some of you probably don't know that the last Louis Vuitton smartwatchlaunched on the market, the Android Wear-powered Tambour Horizon costs around $2,500.
However, the brand new smartwatch coming from Louis Vuitton has just been spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission), which suggests an official announcement is not that far. Not many details about the smartwatch are revealed by the listing, but we do know that there will be two variants available on the market, probably priced quite high.
There's no mention of NFC (Near Field Communication) or GPS, but FCC tested the smartwatch for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The wearable device is about $47.5mm wide, which is pretty standard for a smartwatch.
Obviously, it will run Wear OS and it will pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 3100 chipset. Other than that, information about the upcoming Louis Vuitton is pretty scarce, but one thing is sure: it will cost a small fortune.
Announced alongside V40 ThinQ this week, LG introduced Watch W7. It’s a hybrid smartwatch running Google’s Wear OS, combining mechanical hands and digital functionalities.
We have all of the specs right here, but to sum it up, the watch features a 1.2″ LCD display (360 x 360) with mechanical hands running on top. Inside is a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor (yes, it’s the 2100 and not the 3100), 240mAh battery, 768MB RAM, and 4GB of storage all wrapped in a 44.5mm case size.
Notably, the mechanical hands are capable of more than just telling time. With them, you can access other functions of the timepiece, such as a compass, stopwatch, timer, barometer, and altimeter. According to LG, when in a Watch-Only mode, the device is capable of 100-day battery life, compared to just 2 days when using all of its digital functions.Announced alongside V40 ThinQ this week, LG introduced Watch W7.
