Sainz did say after the race that the natural line is to drift left, and yeah Perez was better placed to avoid the accident. Stewards declared it a racing incident... very costly for Red Bull. Shame they didn't cut to Horner on the pit wall when it happened. In fact come to think of it, I don't remember any pitwall shots.

It wasn't clear cut, and Sainz did inch left a bit. But Perez was half a car behind and had loads of track to the left of him. Definitely both somewhat at fault. But I'm placing slightly more on Perez.

Yup, that's the way I saw it. At the end of the day, Checo could've easily avoided the accident if he had reacted to Sainz's movement. But his racers' sense didn't detect the Ferrari inching in on him for whatever reason.

This video gives a detailed breakdown of the crash.

I agree @imagwai, @Aquagraph, and @Mspeedster. Racing incident that Perez was in a better position to avoid.

Also, if I recall correctly, Perez complained about Norris holding him up following a pit sequence (I think Perez was chasing down Piastri and Leclerc). If so, that is a bit rich coming from the "Minister of Defense" (as he was called by his teammate in 2021).

Indeed. 😆

Will be funny if Perez form continues and Max needs his help to win the WDC!

Haven't watched the videos but one thing that struck me as a bit odd while watching, is that in the collision, the Ferrari rotated to the left very quickly, which would only really happen if there was some sort of force causing that rotation...., ie a counter-force to the acceleration, off-centre to the centre of mass of the car;
That force would only really come from the Red Bull's front wheel pulling at the Ferrari's rear wheel. Which would probably be caused by Perez losing drive very slightly, maybe he was changing gear at the wrong moment, or took his foot off the gas just slightly as the wheels "interlocked".

I agree, felt Perez could have given up the spot and overtaken on the next lap--he had the pace to do it. Feel like it was kind of a repeat of Max and Lando in Austria--Max could have given a little more space but didn't and it cost him...

Conversely you could say Saint was not willing to concede the place was lost and possibly ‘drifted’ left hoping to put Checo off the move?
I’d say racers don’t say “I’ll get you next lap” only “Gotcha, gotcha”

Don't you mean poor Carlos? 🙄

Of greater significance, McLaren now leads the constructors' championship. When's the last time that happened?
After watching the replay in slomo, you are probably right.

Great time for McLaren fans. We'll see if that Fastest Lap point stolen by Dani-Ric helps Max win the title in the end. And speaking of Daniel, hope this is not the end of his F1 career.

Here's Daniel's post race interview. He knows it may have been his last F1 race, so his emotions are palpable. Go Dani, go! Never give up!

As expected, Ricciardo dropped by VCARB with Lawson driving the final races of the 2024 season.

I have mixed feelings about this. Sure he's a nice guy, but he had his chances. He just never seemed able to regain the form he had in his early years when he was winning with RedBull. The writing was on the wall.

Sad for Daniel, but I'm afraid Perez might follow.

F1 is fiercely competitive, so only drivers that are scoring plenty of points and winning races can have some slack. Oh... I almost forgot, and not swearing!

With Daniel out, here's the preview of Checo's exit.

Is that just so Horner can slide Dani Ric into that slot?

No, the rumor is Liam Lawson will take his seat. Lawson is considered the top Red Bull junior driver.

I thought Lawson was going into the Ricciardo seat.

If Lawson gets Perez's car, who gets the 2nd RB (Visa cash app) car?

There's been rumours for ages that Horner was still considering Ricciardo for Red Bull again.

You are correct on Lawson replacing Daniel.
"On Thursday, Red Bull's second team confirmed that Lawson will replace Ricciardo for the rest of the year."

Daniel's exit was so forced and strange that I can't image he would be taking Checo's place.

Isaak Hadjar is now reserve driver.
If Lawson replaces Petez then he will step into Lawsons place alongside Yuki i think.

I read that Lawson's contract was for only up to Singapore. RB could either run the risk of another team snapping him up or promote him, they decided on the latter. Hence, Daniel's forced exit.

They surely want to see how Lawson fairs in real races and against Tsunoda before deciding who might get Perez's seat next year, if the retirement rumor is true. I doubt he'll leap frog over Yuki until he proves himself worthy.

Many probably thought Daniel would outpace Yuki and be in line for Checo's seat. I certainly did. To my surprise, Yuki prevailed over Daniel. I could see Honda politics pushing for Yuki in the top RB team.
