I said on several fori? that increasing penalties should be applied, or a strict engine cap, otherwise the big budget teams can just throw fresh engines as required, 5 places seem to be easily made up.
2021 F1 championship is now over, let鈥檚* look forward to 2022, and those that want to throw a strop can bog off, man up and move on, be the better man.

* I may watch a couple of the first races with new cars, or maybe just the highlights before renewing a lasting interest.

I've spoken to Albert.
He's not happy with what unfolded in the final laps.
Oh here we go, Albert's in hiding so somebody's got to stir the pot. ::stirthepot::
What's done is done. There are a multitude of things that happened during the season that could've changed the championship, endless debates won't change the outcome. For me, it's time to move on and celebrate Max's championship.

I'm not a huge fan of either driver, but I am happy because TAG Heuer is finally back on top after 13 years since their last championship with one Lewis Hamilton. 馃榾

I'm not here to stir the pot on behalf of Albert. Truly.
Albert is way more knowlegable in things F1 than me. I'm just Shari g my opinions on what I believe.

Anyway as you said it's time to move on. The championship has been officially decided.

I look forward to my favourite driver DR to have a great year next year and my most despised driver Max to carry on complaining when things don't go his way.

Over and out.

I can't really conceive of next season being able to match that... knowing F1 it will be a total drooper with one team walking it. Let's hope Russell is allowed to fight Hamilton.

I think Montoya nailed it in the head: Mercedes did it to themselves. If they had pitted Hamilton for softs during the VSC, Verstappen would have most likely stayed out and Hamilton would have instead done what Max did to him. Pass him with ease on the restart thanks to fresh new tires.
If Max had also pitted for softs, he would have ended behind Hamilton on equal tires, and even if anyone else had stayed out and won the race, Hamilton would have been in front of Verstappen and won the championship.
So they chickened out and played it conservative and gifted Max the win.
Thank you, Mercedes.

This is what I鈥檝e been saying. Mercedes strategy was their own undoing. They lost that gamble. The VSC/SC changes the gameplay and we all know it from before.

The more I think about this the more I come around to the idea that actually, Hamilton wasn't 'robbed', or at least he wasn't robbed by Masi. The safety car is always a 'random' event that can change everything, it really hinges on whether Merc didn't pit Hamilton because they believed the race would end under the safety car. If they thought that, then the decision to stay out was obviously right, but on the radio Bono said to Lewis '....the race MAY not restart'.
Also, if we imagine the safety car coming out three laps earlier, which meant that race definitely would restart, I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing they still wouldn't have been able to pit and keep the lead, so they probably would still have wanted to keep track position, and if they had pitted then presumably Max would have stayed out since that meant Hamilton would have had to pass Max to win and Hamilton couldn't afford a crash....

So, yeah, the safety car definitely screwed Hamilton over. But the safety car is a random event at every grand prix. Masi didn't follow the rules and that should have played into Merc's hands... but it would have screwed Max over. If all the lapped cars had been let go and the race had finished under the safety car I don't believe the Hamilton fans would have accepted that Max had been screwed over even though he was sitting behind Hamilton with new softs on the car.

Sorry Rob, cannot agree with this. Safety car is a random event, sure, but firstly it wipes out any lead that a driver has built so is intrinsicly unfair. Lewis would have been screwed if he's pitted, and screwed if he hadn't. Secondly, the way it was implemented in this race (allowing only a few cars to unlap themselves) was the first time we've ever seen it done that way so you could easily argue it handed Max an unfair advantage. Mercedes' decision not to pit would have been influenced by the fact that either Max would have had to lap several cars OR they would allow ALL cars to unlap themselves (meaning the race would have finished under the safety car). They couldn't have possibly foreseen what Masi actually did.

But you're right, I would not have agreed that Max had been screwed over if he hadn't won. He was originally 11 secs back after all and didn't deserve either a fresh set of softs or to be bumped up right behind Hamilton.

I'm no Lewis fan boy, honestly, but I still think this race was an absolute travesty, although I have accepted it won't be changed.

So if there had been another two laps and all the rules were followed to the letter, I still think people would say Hamilton was robbed, but by the safety car instead of Masi. Anything other than a straightforward win on pace was always going to annoy someone...

The thing is, you can say Lewis 'deserved' the win (and it's hard to argue) but do you look at this race in isolation or not? The championship is not one race, even if they came into it on the same points, if you're talking about 'deserving' did Lewis 'deserve' to start the race on equal points? I don't think he did. But anyway, it's getting boring now... and rather pointless talking in circles.

If there had been more laps and the safety car had been applied as per precedent, then I would be saying Hamilton was unlucky rather than "robbed". But if there had been more laps, then he might have come in for tyres? Who knows. And I would still be saying that safety cars are unfair (for anybody, not just Hamilton!)
