and also Mercedes seem to have greatly reduced the performance gap with Red Bull in recent races
I'm confused. RB was able to reduce the performance gap with Mercedes and now Mercedes has managed to widen the gap once more. Or am I missing something?

I think at the beginning of the season Red Bull had the fastest car on most circuits, but since Silverstone, Mercedes has come very close and now it is capable of fighting the Red Bulls, or even beating them.

There was a time when I thought Max would easily win this 2021 Title, but with the evolution of the Mercedes since Silverstone, I think Lewis can win it too 👍

I don't think they did. Max was fast but Checo was no way near Bottas on most occasions. Maybe Bottas is a racing genius only surpassed by Lewis but I don't think that's the case. In Turkey Bottas was cruising away from Max, he didn't stand a chance.

Edit: There was a time when I thought Max would easily win this 2021 Title, but with (the evolution of the Mercedes since Silverstone) both Lewis and Vallteri driving Max into the wall, I think Lewis can win it too 👍

Yes, but at the beginning of the season Checo was new at Red Bull, so it was normal that his performance was worst than Bottas in his fifth year at Mercedes. In Turkey the Mercedes was the best car, and for this reason Bottas won the race by a big margin to Max. Bottas is not a slow driver at all, he usually has good races when he starts from Pole and with clean air, but he is not so good on traffic…

😁
Lewis can also win the Title if Max does not park again on top of him to avoid losing points to Lewis 😉

Thats not fair though, everyone agreed it was Hamilton's fault, he should know by now that he always needs to give Max the space and if necessary back out to avoid collision 😝

Not F1 but interesting read, Lifted from a motorsport site in the UK.
If you thought there was BTCC controversy at Donington Park at the weekend, it had nothing on what transpired in the DTM finale at the Norisring on Sunday.

We normally try to remain neutral, but this left a very sour taste in the mouth - This was an abandonment of motorsport morals.

Going into the weekend Liam Lawson, Maximilian Götz, Marco Wittmann and Kelvin van der Linde were all in the title hunt.
Gotz was the outsider but he took victory in Race 1 with Lawson 3rd and van der Linde 4th, to keep his title aspirations alive.
Wittmann finished 12th and was out of contention.

Sunday's Race 2 saw Van Der Linde (Audi) needing to win and hope, as Lawson (Ferrari) just had to finish top 6 to be champion. Gotz (Mercedes) had to win and hope neither of his 2 rivals scored points.

Lawson led into Turn 1, but what seemed a desperate early lunge that was never going to be made to stick by van der Linde shunted Lawson wide and against the barriers. He would recover, but he was last and suffered damage that would slow him to the point of being lapped.

After the pitstops, the (crucially) Mercedes pair of Phillip Ellis & Lucas Auer led the way with van der Linde 3rd ahead of 2 more Mercedes' - Gotz and Daniel Juncadella.
Gotz needed the win and Juncadella made contact with van der Linde, causing a puncture, a spin and a retirement for the latter - his title challenge was over.

Gotz now ran 3rd but this wasn't enough to take the title.
Importantly, the 2 cars ahead were the Mercedes' of Ellis and Aue but they were too far ahead to catch at race pace.

Then with 3 laps to go, Ellis and Aue dramatically slowed their pace and allowed Gotz to pass for the lead.
Gotz took the victory and the championship by 3 points and Mercedes took the manufacturers title.

“Manufacture” being the operative word.

Appreciate these brands put big money in and winning is paramount, but for 2 drivers from a different team (but the same marque) to be ordered to slow to allow a driver to take a title?
That’s not what motor racing is about, it’s not win at all costs, and as with all sports there’s a moral compass to abide by.

That compass was broken at the Norisring. If DTM wants to regain popularity, allowing such actions isn’t the way to do it.

#DTM #mercedesamg #Audi #ferrari #BMW #manufactured
Win at all costs or win at any cost.?

Team Red Bull was in NYC and did a demonstration to hype next year's inaugural Miami race. Musta been pretty special to see it.
I guess some things in the big apple just never change🫨

I got some Hamilton cards too, can have a look. For sure they are lower and probably comes with a warning text "Won 7 WDC because his car was superior to the competition"
