I don't like team orders at all when they are given from the first race of the season, and when they are given without the driver favored by the orders needing them to win the Title (as happened with Schumacher 2001, 2002, 2004). Of course, I see the team orders very logical and necessary when, late in the season, and with only one of the two drivers with options to fight for the Title, he needs his team mate not to subtract points from his fight with a driver from a rival team (it was not the case with Schumacher 2001, 2002, 2004)

I agree, but...on the other hand Michael once said that you never know what will happen at the end of the season, and while it was laughable in the position he was in, there have been cases in the past where one car has finished a season strong, like 2009 - Brawn was unbeatable in the early part of the year but Button didn't win a single race in the second half while Vettel, Webber and Hamilton came up. If he'd have lost the title because Barrichello wasn't a wingman it would have been good for the fans (and Vettel) but not so good for Brawn or Button.

What I mean is, I've never really agreed that team orders are okay at the end of the season but not at the start, because that means they favour the team/driver that finishes strong over a team/driver that starts strong.

Of course that doesn't really happen now because the performance level is much more consistent throughout the year, it was different in years gone by when a team could find half a second in the wind tunnel or improve their engine.

If you're going to allow teams to enter two cars, then team orders are inevitable really. You can try and make rules to prevent it, but teams always look to find a way round them and the more rules you have, the harder it becomes to police.

And look at 2007, if McLaren would have operated in a Ferrari like manner then Alonso would have three titles. But instead they gave it away to Kimi... when you look at that you can't blame teams for doing what they do.

I can see Toto Wolff leaving a renamed Mercedes-AMG F1 this year. 7x consecutive double World Championship (Driver’s & Construsctor’s Title) 😲😲Nothing anymore to do and nothing to prove actually. This might be an unbeatable record for a long long time. People are clamoring for change already because of this. But Mercedes-AMG has quite literally done the stuff of legends. Re-writing all the F1 records. I can see Toto getting an FIA or F1 officers position in the future just like Jean Todt & Ross Brawn.

My Dad always said that Merc would come in, win everything and leave... maybe he was right?

F1 is in a crappy position now, people always get excited about breaking records but these are so unobtainable without more domination.. maybe F1 needs to join up with Formula e and have a total reset

There are just too many variables. Hamilton has enjoyed a much longer stretch of Mercedes' reign than any F1 racer in history with their team. The number of WC titles has little meaning in that respect. Hamilton is one of the greats but certainly not the GOAT, no matter how many titles and points he still manages to win.
Lewis has no weaknesses. He probably is the greatest ever (so far). The one tragedy of his his career is that he never truly went head-to-head with Michael. Just as the great shame for Michael's career is that he never truly went head-to-head with Senna. The three generations overlapped, but not in any meaningful way. So between the three of them we'll never really know who was best.

Maybe it's better that way 😀

I think the idea of a GOAT is nonsense to be honest. How can you compare the cars of the 1950s with the cars now? They require totally different skills from the driver.

Besides we all know John Force is the greatest driver ever..... in a straight line. 17 Titles (10 in a row!)

In the F1 Magazine 70th Anniversarry special edition, they featured “car of the decade”. The latest 3 are the McLaren MP4/4, Ferrari F2004 and Mercedes-AMG F1 W07 Hybrid. They were the most dominant cars during their time. And we all know who are the drivers of these cars 😉 These cars should have the spotlight more than the drivers 😁

This is really bad actually, since there's no way Renault will have them back that means there's only Ferrari or Merc engines, which means Red Bull will not win. I wonder if the team will now be sold?

The commitment of some of these manufacturers to the sport is pretty poor.

I'm sure his contract has a clause in it regarding things like this.
