But does that make a difference though? Yes softer compound on the area touching the ground (sorry dont know what its called in Eng) but my understanding is that it was the construction of the tire in combination with too low pressure that made them break. The construction between side and top of the tire will be same no matter the compound and Pirelli will require higher tire pressure. So not sure it will affect the race.

Anyone who is an expert in tires, please correct me if Im wrong
Tyre wear was also one of the factors for the punctures, according to Pirelli:

I agree. Almost all those in the hard compound at the closing laps were suffering from the same tire issue. It could have been evident in others down a few more laps. Will shifting tire compound really make a difference? Would have been better to reverse grid for a more exciting run! 馃榿

At the moment, weather forecast for this Sunday at Silverstone shows rain 馃檮... so it could change everything about tyre selection 馃榿 and we could see a really different race from last weekend, although I hope with same winner 馃槈

Go Max, but I'll settle for anyone else winning a race! Sadly I think last weekend was probably the best chance. I wonder if this year will finally see a clean sweep for Merc?

Probably!

But lets enjoy it, it will not be many years before Racing Stroll has spent enough money to make his son world champion. Seeing Lance so high up in the driver standings already makes me wonder if I should take a break from F1 馃榿

In the gran scheme of things, if you told a team at the beginning of the year they could basically replicate a 2019 Mercedes for a 15 point deduct, willing to bet quite a few would've jumped at that

According to the news I鈥檝e seen Toto and Mercedes are not happy about next years intended prize money awards, 5 days to reach an agreement, will anyone call their bluff and look to be prepared to let them walk at the end of this season?

Not just England 馃槈 we too call it the tyre footprint, or surface, or tread, even on a slick. HTH.
