I don't blame him to be honest, and they need him more than he needs them right now. Although I would be surprised if he left Mercedes without a driver... pity if we don't get to see Russell v Hamilton, but maybe he doesn't fancy a hungry team mate either?

Just for speculation purposes, who do you think will likely be the contenders to replace Sir LH in Mercedes if he pulls out from F1? ::popcorn:: You may give 3 answers ;)

Well the obvious one is Bottas. Then Alonso or Nigel Mansell... :D

For veterans: Vettel (German connection) or Alonso :D

For young guns with F1 experience: Mercedes Jr Driver Ocon or Vandoorne

For rookies: De Vries (F2 & FE Champion) ;)

Would Merc really go with a rookie and Russel though? They need a safe pair of hands, maybe Perez.... hahahahaha

    That would be something!

I am trying not to get excited about Hamilton not returning. But the thought is very tempting!

But if he doesn't come back, how will Russell crush him to dust?

Close season, Lewis feels the need to in the limelight, if no one is talking about you, start a rumour yourself.

It will be dejavu for Sir LH. In 2007, the newbie rookie challenged Alonso  Tables will probably somehow turn now.

Wondering what in the FIA investigation will change his mind to be back in F1?

I suppose that some kind of recognition that the rules were broken in that Masi’s decision that stole the Title from Hamilton, and some kind of clarification and measure so that something similar cannot happen again. In addition to Masi, the Stewards who covered him up by drafting an unpresentable decision after Mercedes' protest were also guilty. The FIA Stewards also breached their regulations trying to justify their FIA colleague. They lacked the courage to change the outcome of the race, and their action was equally reprehensible. If Masi is not the FIA Race Director in 2022, it would already be a way of admitting his mistake

I felt LH was very graceful in defeat during his post race interviews. Mad props to him then. But this current behavior seems more like sour grapes behavior of a poor loser.

Hard to think the FIA judge will change their decision at this point.. Sir LH should be more than sour graping IMHO. He has broken alot of F1 records! 100+ wins & 100+ pole positions to his name! I’m not sure anyone can beat that unless we have another “Merc like” dominance in the future. His accolades and what he has achieved should carry him through and over this defeat.. ;)

Yeah, if you look at it from Lewis' point of view, he's had his place in F1 history snatched away. It's his decision at the end of the day and he's entitled to wait and see what happens.

Actually his position is quite powerful if you think about it. Inevitably for a long time he will be the driver with the greatest records (let's not forgot it took him 15 years to win 7 titles) so while the FIA will know that he won't be around forever, they won't want the 'GOAT' to leave with this cloud over him. Otherwise forever it will be brought up that he left because he was cheated out of a title by the FIA. At least if they can placate him enough to stay a while longer and potentially win an 8th title he can leave in a positive manner.

    Poor loser?
He didn't lose, he was stolen by the FIA Race Director. He had won the race and the Title on the track, clearly dominating the race in Abu Dhabi. His reaction would be very different from having been beaten cleanly by Max. He is not angry with Max but with the FIA and the F1 organization, which prioritized an end for Netflix over the integrity of the sport and its regulations.

It is logical that before deciding if he continues, he wants to know what F1 will have in 2022: a serious sport and with a reliable Race Direction with the regulations as it had been historically, or a random Race Direction based on television interests and media. If it’s the second option, possibly Hamilton is at a stage in his career where he no longer wants to be part of that lottery, that circus with a Race Director “clown”. He needs to regain confidence in F1 and Race Direction before deciding. After the robbery that he suffered in Abu Dhabi by Masi, where Masi went unpunished thanks to the corporatism of the Stewards, I understand that Lewis expects some minimum guarantees of seriousness from the FIA vs Netflix before deciding if he continues in F1
