He drives for MB, guess which driver.

Oh god. He becomes more and more of a twit with each passing year!

He should have worn the balaclava after the clash with Alonso?

Or did he still have it on under the crash helmet?

Russell still ahead of Hamilton in the standings....
Lets hope Hamilton wont make it a habit to use Alonso as a kerb, then he will never catch up with Russell

The constructor standings is also a joy to look at, despite the racing strolls having 24p more than I wish they would.

How long before Merc is ahead of Ferrari?

Can’t believe no one else saw this!

Just what is he thinking/drinking/smoking?
Looks like merc are sending him in to case the red bull joint for design clues

Sport's a funny old game isn't it. When you are on top and looking unbeatable the commentators can't find enough superlatives to describe how amazing you are and how you transcend the abilities of the car, but when you take a sudden drop they don't quite know what to say anymore. It happened to Vettel and now it seems to be happening to Hamilton. Albeit I can imagine Hamilton clawing his way up to 5th by the end of the season.

5th=4th place loser though. but in this case you are correct.

So I guess, it’s really about the performance or the package of the car. F1 drivers’ talents really don’t deviate too much from their codrivers since they are on the top of the food chain already. 80/20 rule? 80% car, 20% driver?

Lets just hope that Hamilton has the good judgment to retire when on top and don't embarass himself like Vettel has done the last couple of years. Can you imagine Hamilton teaming up with Stroll, hanging on to the thought of what used to be

Hamilton should have gone at the end of last year, it would have been seen as totally acceptable since he was swindled out of his 8th title. Now, it might just be seen as the beginning of the rain of the new 'GOAT', the changing of the guard... and just as Hamilton had to wait in the wings while Vettel made hay, now it seems to be Verstappen's turn. I hope not, I'd really rather we didn't have another driver winning and winning and winning, it doesn't matter who it is it still gets seriously boring. Especially when Perez clearly isn't up to the job of fighting him 90% of the time.

I wanted Max to win last year but it went too far with all the shenanigans and the final nonsensical twist. But this year Max is driving supremely well, albeit Ferrari are making such a hash of it... he definitely will deserve this title.

Max is a great driver and worthy of the title world champion. It's just that he shouldn't have won it last season. If Lewis had (rightfully) triumphed, then he wouldn't have felt cheated out of his world record number of championship wins and would probably have retired. Maybe he thought he had a shot at it still this season and that Mercedes would improve, but that seems impossible now. It's Max's title this year - nobody else has the car or the consistency to beat him.

It's funny though how drivers can have this 'reign' where they just can't lose and then it suddenly comes to an abrupt stop.

Combination of when the car is no longer working for them and they have to push harder, and maybe just the natural aging process (reactions slowing down)?

I think it's probably more the car. I don't think there is nearly as much performance differential between the drivers as the commentators would like us to believe. Also, when a driver gets in a car that doesn't suit them it makes them look stupid (Ricciardo) and I guess once you undermine the confidence the only way is down... this is why I am always skeptical whenever anyone is hailed as the new messiah, success breeds confidence breeds success. Verstappen was the favourite to win in Spa even though he started 15th (13th) how must that mess with the other driver's heads?

Once the confidence gets a dent it’s a slippery slope-downward-and difficult to stop, Lewis could always start up a fashion design business.
