Yes, I agree the finishing should be better for the price... but we've seen other watches with rough finishing on the backs of the hands in Watchfinder videos. I tried on a Hublot once and I thought it was very nice and I certainly didn't notice any quality issues. Granted I only tried it on for a few minutes in a boutique. I don't know... it's not like I am a Hublot 'fan', but to me it's almost like Hublot have become the new TAG and someone like that who is a TOTAL self confessed Rolex/Tudor fan boy purporting to look at Hublot objectively.... well, I can't take it seriously.

Especially as he totally misses the point re 'value' in watches.

Hublot is kind of 'next level' TAG Heuer, in that they use modern materials and design and I can't help but think that a lot of the reason they get so much 'hate' from the 'retrocentric' watch community is that they don't like the fact that these watches don't fit into their idea of what a watch that costs 拢10,000 should look like.

At the end of the day, if people weren't willing to pay Hublot's prices they would either have to reduce them or go bust. So clearly the 'market value' of a Hublot is somewhere near where it is. If that's because non watch nerds want to pay the prices, well how is that different to Rolex?

I think the point is that the watches aren't marketed at "watch enthusiasts". I guess they're aimed at the Monte Carlo set - people with money who want something recognisable and expensive. So there's definitely a market. As you say, it doesn't fit in with what a lot of watch enthusiasts are looking for in a watch, or for someone who cares about history, finishing, movements, comparative value, etc. So I think you are actually kind of arguing the same point as was made in the video - just from the perspective of someone who like Hublot as opposed to doesn't like them 馃榾

Kind of, except he would tell you that Rolex are exceptional value, while ignoring the fact that Rolex are also worth more than they sum of their materials because of HYPE.

I think Bruce does the best job at looking at a Hublot sort of objectively in the video below. I also think he tells and shows that Hublot watches are very nicely finished. Yes the Big Bang in Bark's video above shows a sucky seconds hand with poor underside but isn't this very similar to something else... oh yes now I remember, TAG Heuer watches priced around $7-9500 also have sucky seconds hand finish 馃槜

Let's see if Adrian agrees with you:
I think the worst and most snobbery thing he says in this video is from 5:02 and 10 isch seconds from that, when he says that a Hublot "won't be an heirloom". Why can't a 10k Hublot worn and loved by someone become an appreciated and valued heirloom when that person passes? Just a plain ridiculous statement to make.

It is a dumb statement. He probably would have said the same thing about the Royal Oak in 1975.

Sorry, Charlie insists on talking Hublot. I suppose we need a dedicated thread for Hublot lovers 馃槑

Erm...hate to be a nitpicker, but I was not the first person to mention Hublot. I did make an innocuous comment, but it seems to have snowballed. Happy to switch back to the Hamilton hate rather than Hublot hate. 馃榿

Am I correct in thinking there+is a minimum number of races that need to be run to verify a world championship season?

The minimum number of races needed for a season is eight, as set out under Article 5.4 of the sporting regulations.

Aha, thanks, I thought it was a biggish percentage of the calendar, ie 75%.

Less races would be better for Max since he has more engine damage, no?

I wonder when we get the announcement that Bottas is gone and Russell is in? Or will Hamilton stamp his feet until Toto lets him stay one more year?

I sense something isn't quite right with Hamilton at the moment. I believe he is not quite the same post-covid. If he wins this season, then perhaps he'll retire?

Surely they must let Bottas stay as long as Hamilton is there? Makes no sense to replace him and create chaos by getting Russell on board
