What a load of tossers, just what fans want to see, some genuine exuberance, imagine if NASCAR tried the same.

The rules permit a celebration. I guess they deemed it potentially dangerous, though.

It wasn't like he did a doughnut on the straight was it? Jesus... it was a pretty lame burnout at that!

It might have been the slowing down so close to the line that was as dangerous as the burnout. Other cars would have been crossing at full speed. Also, you saw what happened to Bottas (spinning in the pit lane at relatively slow speed after lighting up the tyres leaving the garage). Red Bull were the first to complain about how dangerous that was.

I agree. For instance Bottas and Perez crossed the line with a 0.5s gap, so both did it at full speed. Having a car stopped in the middle of the track and so close to the finish line is not nice for Race Direction. He was causing unnecessary risk with that celebration.

Maybe Max had enough advantage this time, but if his car stalls or spins, the situation would have been dangerous. On another occasion, with less lead time or other conditions, this type of celebration could represent a real danger, and the Race Director sure wants to prevent Max or other drivers from wanting to do something similar in the future. That is why they did not sanction Max this time, but all the drivers are now warned for the future

Maybe they should mark out a designated 'celebration' zone and put some dayglo barrier tape around it, and have a marshal with a flag with a doughnut on it?

He looks more focused on his watch than his workout. 😉
