Great race, lots of emotions, balls of steel by Hamilton. Almost makes you wish it would rain every race.

If anything, this race brought home just how much the 'car' defines the result. Hamilton didn't remember how to drive half way through the race, the track came to the Merc and then it was business as usual. Just as the car (or perhaps tyres) suited Racing Point in qualifying, Stroll didn't suddenly become the fastest guy out there. He did switch to inters at the perfect time though and for that he should get credit, but then he switched tyres at the wrong time in the race and that was the end of that.
Somebody pointed out a depressing, but telling statistic which underlines the superiority of the Merc, that being that Nico Rosberg is still the second most successful driver in the hybrid era, and he's been gone since 2016!

Mind you, I was glad (and very surprised) that Hamilton wasn't gifted the win by a safety car, as I completely expected. But I really hope Hamilton retires soon it is getting so boring now. I don't get people who say that 'we are blessed to witness such greatness', if a football team won every single game in a season 10-0 it would be boring wouldn't it?

It's funny though, if we discount every F1 champion who had a superior car then we're not left with many are we? Kimi, Alonso... Keke Rosberg! He only won one race in 1982, the least dominant WDC ever!

This sort of comparison has no merit. F1 is not a sport like athletics where everyone has the same gear and it's straightforward to compare athletes of the same generation and across generations. According to Ecclestone Hamilton is among the top 5 best F1 drivers of all time. Let's leave it at that.

I’m not saying LH is the GOAT. The GOAT argument has always been debatable depending on who says what or what was the basis. People will generally just tend to looks at numbers. Give this 10, 20 or even 30 years ahead. All that people will remember and new generations will look at are the numbers LH has achieved. No denying anything from that. Unless someone can surpass his numbers.

I will leave Ayrton Senna as my GOAT. Can’t argue with that because he left us at the peak of his career. We will never truly know the answer.

One thing that surprised me during the race is how they used the “inters” . They were definitely intermediates, from wet to slick. Given the track conditions, not fully wet and not fully dry, it is amazing to see the inters become “slick” later on when the racing line has been “dried” out. Knowing how to read your tires are really a talent or probably a “gift” That was the key to Hamilton and Perez’s podium, both only with 1 pit stop. Changing inters more often will cost you time in the pitstop and also needing to wet the tires on some areas, the reason why some drivers steer towards the “wet” away from the racing line.

I always think that statistics are only ever half the story. A lot of people rate Mika Hakkinen very highly but his stats aren't that amazing; 20 wins from 161 starts... but then if Schumacher and Hamilton had started out in a Lotus that couldn't even qualify to start the race sometimes then their stats might be less impressive. Same with Alonso, he drove for Minardi so the first year of his career was effectively a career stat killer.

We might justifiably say that Alonso and Hamilton are on a similar level (albeit probably the balance has tipped in Hamilton's favour nowadays), and yet Alonso's first year yielded a best result of 10th place, whereas Lewis' first year almost resulted in a WDC.

But also, people who rely on stats always fail to take into account the fact that a driver's performance can fluctuate throughout his career, depending on motivation and experience and a lot of other things. That's why the whole 'x' beat 'y' in 2013, and 'z' beat 'x' in 2016, so 'z' MUST be better than 'y' falls flat on it's face.

It will be funny if Vettel doesn't do that great against Stroll at Aston Martin next year as no doubt that will 'prove' that Perez is 'better' than Vettel.😲

That was the mistake they made with Stroll (let's not forget he wasn't keen on changing tires).

The previous race, Checo was asked to pit when he could have stayed longer and grab a podium. That was a loss for him, similar to Lance in this race. Clearly Racing Point’s “strategy calls” needs alot of proper improvement and “wise calls”. I was beginning to think they didn’t want Perez to win or get points since he will not continue with the team next year anymore 😲

I’d agree that numbers may not define the whole picture, but they are already there and lasts longer than any anecdote, commentary, opinion or analysis. Funny why Schumacher emerged as the year’s controversial fanvote winner “Most Influential Person in Formula 1” with its 70 years of existence, edging out Ecclestone, Newey and even Enzo Ferrari at the final round (eclipsing even the namesake of the team Schumacher achieved his greatest heights) simply because Schumacher has the numbers in the history books! (even if people haven’t actually watched him race, know his controversial moves or was even already alive during his F1 peak) Fanvotes are not representative, yes, debatable again, but I together with alot of F1 fans may not agree, but the internet has spoken. 🙄

No drivers can be described as GOAT, unless someone has inside information about Armageddon just around the corner, difficult to compare drivers of different eras, there have been times when several manufacturers that had race winning cars and others when only one or two were competitive, although some drivers were able to wrestle absolute dogs to the chequered flag. Could Lewis (or Max) wrestle a 50’s monster 300miles to a gp win?
I’d watch an end of season run between the top ten drivers in identical cars with starting positions drawn from a hat.

It's pretty impressive for Lewis to win the championship by so many points, by wining the race, and by lapping his teammate!

I'm just sick of all the TV coverage banging on about records all the time. Drivers don't think about this stuff. And I don't care about it either! Drivers just want to keep on winning. Mercedes and Lewis are both 7 times champions. Outstanding achievement? Yes. Surprising? Not really! Perhaps now we can move on?

Yeah, I'm sick to death of hearing about records as well. But the media loves it. I just think it's a shame now that winning one WDC is so devalued, it doesn't impress anyone any more. So Max has to win at least three before anyone really cares... even Alonso only won twice. Still, I can't see Vettel winning another four so it's going to be a good long while until this record gets broken. In a way it was kind of nice when Schumacher retired and we were back to just having one double world champion on the grid, even better that for the next four years different drivers won so we then had 5 champions racing at once. But then Vettel went and ruined it by winning three more and then Lewis really ruined it by winning another 6 (so far). That's why I really hope Lewis retires now, F1 desperately needs a reset and a different champion.

I think Lewis might want one more title!

That's what I'm afraid of. Plus he must be wary of someone coming in to the team and carrying on where he left off... what if Russell was enlisted and Bottas won three or four on the trot...

Well Hamilton said "i'm just getting started", so that's that... He'll have won 9-10 when all is said and done.

PS: When is Red Bull announcing Checo?

Sir @Albert-AMG 👍 This is for you 😉
😀 Thanks! Yes, it’s nice to see him wearing the T-shirt of the Barça (F.C. Barcelona), my favorite football team 👍

Seems like no one is anticipating an F1 Bahrain GP today with LH on pole (again and again) 😗😗 Mercedes-AMG front row lockout, Red Bull 2nd row lockout. So what else is new? 🙄🙄

Fortunately there is F2! Anyway, just watched FIA F2 and the races there are much much exciting! 👍Winners can be anyone’s guess in the feature race (mandatory pit spot) and the sprint race. Mick Schumacher, although currently leading the F2 standings, can’t rest his head going to the last race of the season next week. Title contenders going to the race, Illot and Tsunoda, finished a dismal 15th and 16th after the race today with Schumacher hanging with just 2 additional points. Mazepin is still on title contention for next week currently seating at third 😲

Exciting to see Mick Schumacher cliffhanging to his lead with just 14 points ahead of Illot and 43 points from Mazepin. Next week with a different squarish outer track layout! 😉

Scuderia Ferrari graphic art this week for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Vettel starts at 11th and Leclerc at 12th on grid with the Scuderia on a 6th row lockout 😜
