How on Earth did Lewis start on pole and finish behind the guy who started 18th.... there wasn't even a proper safety car!

Minor damage to the car, a much too late call to pit for new tyres, and it is rumoured when the gearbox cooling pumps were changed on both cars between qualifying and race the rear suspensions were not aligned correctly. Plus a champion-in-waiting with nothing to lose 馃憤

Ocon to Mercedes for 2019?

Nothing against Valtteri but I would love to see Lewis pushed by a young gun now he's very solidly the established figure. Just the way he did against Alonso 馃榿

Is that birdie in the tree singing something?

I think in most cases that pit call under VSC was the right one and Lewis was clearly fast, but very difficult to overtake cars with similar pace. Once in that turbulent hot air of a similarly paced car it was clear to see it was nigh on impossible to overtake.
If he needed to finish second I think he may have taken more of a risk with Max, but he didn鈥檛 need to and is happy to wait for the next race to secure it.

Got this the day before Max won, a used nut.

Max鈥檚 signature at the top and Daniel鈥檚 at the bottom.

The nut weighs next to nothing for the job it does.

Whew! If races can be this good when the Championship is not a factor can we decide the Championship after Qualifying for the first race and then let them all race for the rest of the year?

OK, Constructors', let's give that to whoever chea^W bends the rules best -- make it an intellectual exercise.

Didn't see the race as I was out playing golf, so thanks for posting the highlights. I don't see what Ocon did wrong. Why did he get a penalty? He had enough pace to catch and get alongside Verstappen, so he's entitled to try and unlap himself, isn't he? He had the line going into the corner and Verstappen closed the door, so Max was the one at fault?

Well Max is an Arrogant Prix but at least he has balls, and with the world going to the PC dogs these days, I admire someone who can say what he thinks, instead of just following the party line.
He has already got the rest of the drivers thinking twice now when he is approaching a corner side by side, so I would say mission accomplished for the rest of this driving days.
"Shit , here comes Max"
Right or wrong, It's a plan I suppose.

You're entitled to unlap yourself but you don't make risky moves against the race leader in the process. This would have been classified as a racing incident had they been in the same lap. They obviously weren't but Ocon chose to make it a P1 vs P2 battle by turning into the corner alongside VER. That's plain stupid and he would have gotten criticism all around even if there hadn't been contact. It's unprecedented in modern day F1. Imagine having to fight backbenchers when you're trying to save tyres and your engine in order to finish the race. Ultimately Max chose not to give in so he threw away the victory by making contact. Immature, arrogant, goal getter, he'll learn to avoid such collisions. It doesn't mean Ocon's off the hook however.

I think Ocon was wrong to do what he did, but he鈥檚 certainly a driver to watch for the future and one mistake does not define the driver. The argument could be that Max should have played it safer as well, but you shouldn鈥檛 really need to against a back marker is the argument I鈥檇 guess.

Max鈥檚 pushing of Ocon afterwards I honestly have no issue with as the sport needs more characters and emotions to keep it interesting. Max is a character that brings strong divides, just like Hamilton and I like that.

Some great young drivers coming through without doubt.
