Liberty Media seemed slightly more restrained in its use of the pointless computer-generated infographics that it vomits all over the broadcast footage. Covering up the view of the ACTUAL ACTION, and trying to make F1 look like a video game for the ADD afflicted. Liberty Media does not understand F1, I wish there was a button to turn that rubbish off.

And next year exclusive live broadcast rights for every race will be with Sky :-(

But also audio commentary variously on BBC Radio FiveLive and 5LSports Extra, and also carried on the F1 app -- which is still available when the BBC replaces it on their channels with more "popular" stuff in which I have no interest (football, tennis, cricket, bog-snorkelling, etc) . That plus the F1 official timing screens app (at roughly 1 £/$/€ per race) works for me. I know what a race looks and sounds like both from the trackside (since 1960, F1 since 1965) and from a single-seater (since 1975, only FF and F3 but I reckon that counts for something, YMMV) and the TV coverage does not in the slightest remind me of either.

OTOH Tour de France coverage on ITV4 is excellent, and I'm watching every stage start to finish 👍

The return of team orders....👎
Yeah! That must have been a tough pill to swallow.

You can see that Red Bull are at the end of their tether when in comes to Renault

Verstappen:
"He told the team: "Can I not just go ahead and **** it. I don't care if this engine blows up... What a ******* joke all the time with this ****. Honestly."

Horner:

"Speaking to Sky, Horner said: "I am not going to get drawn into saying too much, but we pay multi millions of pounds for these engines, for a first class product, a state of the art product, and you can see it is quite clearly some way below that.

"So it is frustrating. That is what it is. We still have Daniel in the race and I will let Cyril come up with his excuses afterwards."

Wouldn't want to be in Honda's shoes if there are a couple of blown engines in pre-season testing...

Not sure it was. Bottas is well aware of his position and even signed a new contract solidifying that. I think also they accepted the reality that Lewis was quicker overall and so would have not been a good move for him to pass Lewis and then hold him up.

hard to argue. Add that to the high-speed accident that Ericsson had yesterday and it's been a couple of weeks that could have turned out very differently if the changes hadn't been made.

It is unacceptable that Max's intention to protect his track position results in taking out another driver - again.
It is also sad that he still thinks he has done nothing wrong.

He does it because he can. It came in with carbon-fibre chassis and Ayrton Senna. However I do not want to go back to the era of aluminium tubs, no seat belts and 4 deaths a year. This sadly is the price.

OTOH, the drivers I am following with great enthusiasm are the French trio of Ocon, Gasly and Leclerc. No whining, no punting others off and excellent performances in the "Best of the Rest" race. Perhaps we'll see Norris and Russell with a drive soon too!

Petulant child. Seems RBR / STR consistently produces whiners who can do no wrong in their eyes.

He is young, although that only goes so far.

An element of arrogance is present in all of the best drivers unfortunately as is self belief. Could Bottas have moved over a little further, possibly, should he have needed to, no. But also why would he want to move over, under braking, on to the painted area that is no doubt dusty as nobody drives over it? He wouldn’t.

Vettel’s was a silly mistake and all he had to back off a little and not still try to win that battle when Lewis had already taken him.

@MRC I’ll agree on the French trio. Leclerc is certainly one to watch and have enjoyed seeing Ocon in F1 and him showing Perez a thing or two. Gasly has proven a good choice to be brought up the ranks of Red Bull as well and looking forward to him getting a RBR seat.

Vandoorne gone from McLaren...apparently if Lando wasn’t given a seat by McL by the end of September, then he was free to drive elsewhere for 2019.

Feels like a waste. Develop a young guy for 5 years including two seasons in a poor car.

———————————
Stoffel joined the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2013, became Test Driver in 2014 and won the GP2 Championship in 2015 while part of the McLaren family. In 2016, he became Reserve Driver, where he deputised for Fernando Alonso at the Bahrain Grand Prix, impressively scoring a point on his debut. He was promoted to race driver to partner Fernando from the start of the 2017 season, and has contested 34 grands prix with the team to date.

Damn shame indeed. Few in the field that can match Stoffel's junior track record and now he supposedly lost his speed? Try racing a sh*t car as a deputy of Alonso, who's claiming all the first updates and best mechanics, in an unhappy team. Stoff's a victim of circumstances beyond his control, including being the Ron Dennis protogé bit. I hope he gets to rebound and show what he's worth. A grand choice for any team. Mclaren's human resources mgnt is at the same level of it's engineering. Now they'll have an even more junior duo to drive around in their go carts. Long gone are the days of Prost, Senna and Hakkinen.

...and to see Williams and McLaren at the back of he grid is amazing. I think McLaren will be OK, but the last couple of years of Williams look a lot like the last days of Tyrrell...has a feeling of inevitability about how this one ends, which would be incredibly sad
