True, I dunno... it's a grey area. I suppose it could be argued that it wasn't a one off so it was more of a proper release, but to me it's definitely more Bamford than TAG, whereas the carbon Monaco and the Aquaracer were collabs between Bamford and TAG.
I'm not saying it should've been included, nor saying it shouldn't, but understand why you chose not to include it.

In some ways it's not that different from the Rake & Revolution's Blue Dreamer or the C11 x Autavia, except Bamford has the capability to make these himself. But he couldn't do it without TAG Heuer's blessing. So a grey area as you say.

Regardless, the RUF collab was for me one of the interesting TAG Heuer Carreras of 2022.

Yeah. Would I have included the Autavia C11? Probably... though mainly because we all knew about it. But on the other hand it did have a unique part number didn't it?

Tomorrow (30th) we have my 'Crazy Year of Watch Buying' post... which may well be the last, since I don't see my buying 10-20 watches in 2023!

Then on the 2nd we have what is surely the most self-indulgent post of the year...

Made by TAG Heuer without any further modifications is a good standard I reckon. This should always entail a separate ref number. The Skipper, Blue Dreamer, Bamford Monaco and AR all fall within this category. We will miss interesting editions such as the RUF and Illest but you have to draw a line somewhere. It will get interesting if ever a non eligible watch gets WOTY praise from the forum. Maybe a special mention by the jury in that case?

Hodinkee Dato 45 was another one, that had it's own part number and was available from the TH website...

I forgot about the Illest. Again I presume that was another 'Bamford' modified watch, not a TAG Heuer.

The C11 Autavia also had its own ref number, fully made by TAG Heuer as well.

Yes. I think the number is the most important thing really, because it shows TH think it is one of theirs..

Agreed. As a matter of fact, my bringing up the RUF was simply that, a "special mention". Since the Carrera Elegant had a particularly strong showing this year and the RUF was another one of my personal Elegant favorites.

But how would one know if a non-eligible watch is worthy of a WOTY special mention if it's not included as a potential candidate? I bet many people forgot all about the Illest from last year (not me). The initial chatter about a watch doesn't always reflect the end of year voting.

I don't think whether or not a collab x watch is available from the TH website is a good criteria. They're not always sold that way, for example this year's WOTY winner was never shown on the TH website.

That could work, if it scores high enough it deserves a "special mention".

Also, since we're on the topic, why is it that the Connected is excluded from voting?
The E4 was a new release this year, there was even a Porsche Edition, and the Mario Connected was an interesting release from last year.

I'm open to the idea of semi-including watches like the RUF (albeit presented separately) but the Connected is another matter.

I think you're doing an excellent job with the annual WOTY votings Brobert, I know you spend many hours putting this all together for us to have fun and summarise the year. I feel the line drawn makes sense in regard to what watches we include and not. The silver gods may shine their light upon your soul.

In general, I just lean towards being one of inclusion rather than exclusion.
