While it wasn't my choice, but i think the Carrera Dato is a worthy winner.

I would have got it if it wasn't limited edition and cost a kidney.

Yes, same. I had one in the shopping cart but the thought of import duty/vat on top, and the need to make an instant decision, prevented me from checking out.

I’ve always thought that the Howdinkee Carrera Dato is a 2020 released, signified by the 160th Anniversary Rotor, just delayed due to logistics & pandemic, so I didn’t really placed it among the 2021 THE / Calibre11 WOTY contenders 😉

But it is a worthy winner nonetheless 👍

Good point! To me the incorrect rotor is just a funky cool feature making the watch cooler. Some might think TAG should have replaced it with a correct proper rotor instead of saving money and keeping the 2020 rotor but not me.

Right. Another example is Grand Seiko, they chose to align their date with the hour markers, as their sub-dial is asymmetrical.

But this makes perfect sense as the sub dial doesn't draw comparison with the date window like on the Dato.

I'm actually personally not a fan of Grand Seiko's power reserve indicators. They screw up what would otherwise be a nice elegant dressy design.

On some of the newer ones, they've moved the power reserve to the caseback I think, which is a much cooler touch.

Yes, 100% agree on this. The SLGA007 is a fabulous watch that has dispensed with the power reserve from the dial. I hope I might be able to get one of these Suwa Lake models at some point in the future.

Especially because you can watch the indicator move as you feverishly wind the watch, perhaps? 😉 😜

I know the green one you mean, and it's fabulous, but I have my eye on this blue one

No more than a big round circle should be compared to a small rectangle. I'm looking at the forest, you're fixated on a tree. 😉

That's like saying the No Time To Die James Bond movie shouldn't be considered for an upcoming Oscar, along with other 2021 movies, because it was supposed to have been released in 2020. LOL.

I did this for chuckles, but actually it kinda works. Makes a nice triangle with the subdial and the Heuer logo...

Personally I don’t care where the date goes as long it’s legible, at some point it’ll. becovered by the hands.

Can you put the Heuer logo at 9? I think it would be funky. Maybe the 'swiss' between 12 and 1?
