To give my opinion about their differences in design, materials, price, and “place of birth” I don’t need to put Gen3 on my wrist 😉
If you don’t put it on your wrist you’ll never notice the superb finish quality, like the glossy ceramic bezel or the display being so close to the glass that it seems that you are touching the display itself.
That’s something I never experienced in the Gen 1 & 2.
It’s your loss, Albert.

I disagree. It’s a real TAG more than ever, because it looks like a mechanical TAG watch.
You don’t have to wear a bulky watch because it’s a smartwatch.
I disagree. Gen1 and Gen2 took design directly from Carrera 45mm/43mm Heuer 01, Heuer 02, and Heuer 02T. You can call it “bulky” and I would say “sportier” and “avantgarde”, but for sure is 100% TAG Heuer... and for me this avantgarde design makes more sense for a smartwatch than the more classic and conservative look from Gen3

I like Gen3, it’s nice (mostly with the steel bracelet) but it has not same personality, and for sure its design doesn’t look so TAG Heuer as previous Gens... I don’t know if it reminds me more a Formula 1 or a Calibre 1887 Carrera, but it’s not so directly linked to a mechanical TAG Heuer watch as it was before...

BTW, I’m missing all the high-end materials from Gen2: titanium and black ceramic bracelets, calfskin straps (I hope this will be solved soon), rose gold and even titanium with diamonds lugs... I think TH did a great effort with Gen2 Modular to make it the best luxury smartwatch (many accessories, high-end materials, many Special Editions, and even a Tourbillon mechanical module), and with Gen3 they are looking for better profit with less investment... like moving from “SWISS MADE” to “CHINA” 🤔

Swiss made vs China is a bit of a strange argument here. Seriously, it doesnt matter because gen 1 and 2 were also not particularly unique swiss caliber watches.

Oh my goodness. I am so torn lol! I agree and disagree with various discussions. I was ready to buy the new watch, upgrading from the 45v2, mainly because of the heart rate monitor. it sounds like the new version will do all that my apple watch does, which is what I use for health/exercise/bike and walking , so I could sell, that although the LTE is useful. The price makes me hesitate too.
I think I will pop the the Tag boutique in Leeds and see the thing and try not to be impulsive!!!!!±
Can other watch faces be loaded on the new one? I love using the Cronosurf wave on my connected.

Loss? No, at the moment I’m just saving money because TH made Gen3 not compatible with Gen2 Modular system 😉

For sure I won’t miss the opportunity to see it on the metal and test it, and I’m sure it has to look better on the metal than in pictures (as it happens with Gen2), but -as I told before- it doesn’t change my view on design, materials, price, “China vs Swiss Made”, modularity (mostly the lack of compatibility with current Modular system), etc... I really like it (mostly the black titanium Gen3, which would look great on a black ceramic bracelet if it were available), but not enough to change my Modular 45 smartwatch (which I can use with many different accessories) for it, because being iPhone user I can use just one tethered smartwatch...

And as I also told before, my main concern with Gen3 would be obsolescence: I did a big investment in Gen2 Modular, but when it becomes obsolete, I will be still enjoying my Modular 45 collection with my two mechanical Carrera modules (Calibre 5 and Calibre 16). When the 2250€ black titanium Gen3 becomes obsolete, then it’s a full loss of 2250€... 🤔

I was very sceptical when I bought mine, my thinking was, ok let's try and then return. Nope. They nailed it this time.

You should throw your iPhone away immediately... 😁
😁
I never expected to wear an iPhone on my wrist! This SWISS MADE label has a different value when we are talking about watches 😉

The sentence "it's your loss" means "tú te lo pierdes".

Are there any other TAG watches made in China? This is a big deal as ppl spend thousands for watches that are Swiss made, or German for that matter. If Rolex or Omega switched to Chinese operations, would anyone buy them? Regardless of quality.

I was talking about the reduction of costs (not of retail price) TH has done with Gen3 vs Gen2: less available accessories and customization options, less high-end materials, no Modular system... and also China vs Swiss Made

The SWISS MADE label achievement was really announced and was given a big importance when the Gen2 Modular was launched, together with the world-first (and up to now, still unique) in watchmaking, Modular concept. This is from the TH official press release:

And the Gen2 Modular workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds was also presented as an added value for this watch:

Maybe I’m very “romantic”, but I like that my Gen2 Modular is SWISS MADE and that was assembled in this workshop at the TAG Heuer headquarters, other than in some anonymous factory in CHINA, like any other smartwatch

Firstly with all faults being posted on here like the battery dying and the bezel falling off its probably not a bad idea to stop associating it with a direct swiss craftsmanship.

Secondly, I got enough of Biver. He had his days. He is old, his health is not great and he made mistakes. What you are experiencing today with your modular limbo - is his misjudgement of the market initially. It was obvious that the modular was not going to be widely accepted. It was a marketing gamble, the same as rubber strap with pink gold hublot 15 years ago. But this time it did not work, but people like you spent a lot on this damaging the brand even further.

I am negociating with someone to buy a new CM45 produced in 2020. Together with pair of ceramic lugs ceramic clasp and a brown leather band. What should be a good buy price? @Albert-AMG your opinion counts.
