So my plan is to take a photo of my favorite face now, print it in high resolution, glue it on the watch and put it on a shelf when the battery dies.
馃榿 馃う

This is why the TH Modular concept of Gen2 is so brilliant, because when the connected module becomes obsolete for any reason (battery, hardware, screen, software...), you still can enjoy your lugs, straps, buckles, and bracelets, with the mechanical modules, so all this investment is not lost as with a standard smartwach like Gen3, with no #connectedtoeternity program as Gen1 and Gen2

So when the battery is gone, so is the watch. Not the best business strategy.
I agree, it is not the best strategy, mainly for the customers.
Perhaps they think that making disposable watches in China will generate more profit for each watch sold (because of a much lower manufacturing cost), but with higher failure rates (a foreseeable lower quality control is evident compared to when they manufactured Gen2 in their Swiss headquarters) that does not give a good image, and if Gen3 battery cannot be changed, they will have to change many complete watches while they are under warranty, and probably offer a discounted exchange for Gen4 when they fail out of warranty... 馃

But this is common with contemporary electronics. But strangely enough I remember reading specifically that TAG Hauer took special care to make the battery removable for the 3rd gen. Connected.
Btw, it just dawned upon me where I know your avatar from. It's from Carl Barks' "Donald Duck and the Gilded Man". Happy childhood memories. 馃榿

Close call. It's from a Don Rosa story based on the Carl Barks story. I'm impressed.

Yeah, you're right. I read only the original Carl Barks story. 馃榿

After a little less than two weeks, I was wondering about the battery life. I've been installing some faces but I was done with the heavy duty part of that a few days ago. I adjusted the minimum brightness to 10% and the maximum is the recommended 70%. I do no more than an hour of exercise a day tracked by Google Fit. I haven't lasted a single day without going to battery saver mode when it drops to 1% by late afternoon. I did conditioned it at the beginning. Is this the norm?

What happened? Did I use up my newcomer allowance for annoying questions? Did I step on quicksand with this topic?

I don鈥檛 own a gen 3 only a gen 1 and 2, but always get a full day from both. Gen 2 better than gen 1. But both with always on display and notifications but not constantly touching screen. I鈥檝e heard gen 3 is better than 2, so something not right.

Also, I normally get around 30 to 40 percent left at the end of the day after around 15 hours use with always on display with the gen 2 easily.

Today I was wearing my watch from 8:45 to 15:45 and it went only down to 75%. I don't know what you're doing and it doesn't last. Do you have Android or iPhone?

I have an iPhone. I keep the screen always on because I don鈥檛 like having to tap it to see the time. I was assuming that the custom faces are battery killers and I do like TAG faces with complications. I don鈥檛 know if that would do it.

My colleague at work, who purchased his Connected 2020 several months before me and has it tethered to an iPhone, also complains about poor battery life. Looks like often complaints about poor battery life come from iPhone users, but I have no real data to be certain. Ultimately someone can complain about poor battery life if he manages 24h of stamina, whereas his expectation was 5 days away from the charger. It's very subjective.
However you do seem to get a lot less stamina than I do from my watch.

I have a Gen 3 with an iPhone. Charge 2h at 21:00-22:00 ( still battery 20-40%). I don鈥檛 want to leave all the night because my Screen of Gen 2 was burned. Airplane mode and theatre mode until the 7:00.
Screen always on, nfc on, gps on and hearth rate ( 3-4 days at week with a 1h run). Wifi Off, only connect if I need it.
Watchfaces originals: normally Helios and Classic.
When I bought the watch ( April), calibrated 2 times and nothing more.
Like my Gen 1-2 , the battery it鈥檚 similar to the Gen 3.

I switched to having the screen off and tilt to wake. Battery life increased considerably. I'm using one of the watch faces that is supposed to be a battery saver. I don't like the faces that come with the watch as much so I'm using Watch Maker and loading TAG faces from here.

I called customer service. Before we discussed my phone, they told me they expect the battery to last four to five years if used daily. They also said there are no plans for any mechanical replacements and the battery most definitely can't be replaced when it dies.

They said my battery is not behaving as expected and to send it in to be checked. I asked what they would do if it turns out is not working normally, since they just had told me it can't be replaced. They said they would contact me to discuss options once they see it. I'll send it out next week.

Interesting, I鈥檓 sure I read somewhere that the gen 3 battery can be replaced easily. The Gen 1 can certainly be replaced, there is a YouTube video of how to do it.

Yes, but @eldorado is the second Gen3 owner that I know who has asked to TH if the battery can be replaced, and the TH customer service both times said No... so it鈥檚 not good news that after four-five years of use the $2000 investment is completely lost: no mechanical watch exchange program (as with Gen1), no mechanical modules available (as with Gen2 Modular), and no changeable battery either :whipped:

This is where I saw it.

maybe they mean, it cannot be replaced by customers but they can do it. They are being very secretive. In the future they want to be able to charge say 100 euros for the privilege I assume.

No, the answer they gave to the other Gen3 owner with battery problems in his watch was clear: TH customer service informed him that they can鈥檛 replace the battery, and that for this reason they were going to send a complete new watch to him... that鈥檚 fine for the customer while watch is under warranty, but not after two years 馃う

I鈥檓 so glad I have the gen 2 then with some spare modules. Look at the gen 3 , all of the money is in the watch head. The strap and clasp is no more than 150, meaning that the head is nearly 1500 pounds. You can buy perfect gen 2 heads for a few hundred on eBay.

Me too! 馃憤
Again the brilliant idea of the Modular system, also in how the prices of the different parts of the watch are distributed: with the lugs being the most expensive part, which allows much better prices for the mechanical modules and also for the connected modules (head units) 馃憤
