Hi Mark,
Similar to you I went from Apple Watch to Gen3 Connected and also using an iPhone, currently an XS Max. For me it was easy to set up and I just wanted some of my Notifications like SMS, eBay, PayPal and some others to work and it works well with an iPhone.

Phone calls can be answered but you can't talk dick tracy style and that's fine with me because I don't use that feature but comes in handy when walking/running and listening to my AirPods as I can answer a call on my Watch and talk via AirPods without taking my phone out of my pocket.

You can download some apps and they do work fine but google MAPS is useless and can't really do much from what I can see, I think it only works if you use an Android phone......maybe someone else can help if I'm wrong. I tried to get MAPS to work but it only shows where you are and won't navigate to where you want to go.

I use the TAG Heuer Sports App for Exercise and it Works BUT with some BUGS that need to be fixed, I emailed Tag and got no response, hopefully they can fix with the Next Update.

As you know the Apple Watch is excellent in many ways but like me if you are after a better looking watch that looks like a real watch the Gen3 will be perfect but it won't do everything the Apple Watch does. The gen3 has an excellent screen and its pretty fast, you will find its pretty easy to use just like the Apple Watch.

Hope the little above helps 馃榾

Google maps doesn't work on Android either, a known bug but who knows if or when Google will fix it

Sorry for the stupid question but trying to find the beta version.
Just go to Play Store, select the app WatchMaker, scroll down the information and you鈥檒l see Join the beta program (or similar).
When you choose this option, the app will appear in a new tab called Beta.
Then you will start to receive beta updates.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, it is much appreciated. Like yourself, my main use of the watch is SMS, WhatsApp, Call and Email notifications - then the primary function is health data such as calories, steps and recording walks, hiit sessions and so forth. When you say there are some bug with the fitness side of things could you elaborate? Do you have all the info pull through from the watch to apple health on the iPhone?

The phone call functionality sounds perfect for me using AirPods too.

What I think is bugs within the Tag Fitness App is as follows.......
1 - When you start a Walk/etc session you will see 4 segments, KM - PACE - TIME - HEART RATE Which was perfect for workouts up until a month ago when for some reason/bug you can鈥檛 tap the screen to cycle through the segments to shift what鈥檚 important to you to go to the top and show the numbers larger. Tapping the screen to to shift things around the screen was very useful. SEE EDIT BELOW
2 - To check your workouts on the watch your able to see what you have done in total KM as WEEKLY - LAST 30 DAYS - YEARLY, for whatever reason/bug the accumulated WEEKLY sessions shows you what you have done from Mon to Saturday THEN goes to ZERO on Sunday, if you do a workout on Sunday it will show you the distance for Sunday only and go back to Zero on Monday. Tag thinks one complete week is in two parts (mon-sat) & (sun on its own) this really bothers me.

I鈥檝e tried re-starting the watch and even resetting/unpairing the watch and starting again but didn鈥檛 fix the issues.
I鈥檓 waiting for an UPDATE to hopefully fix the issues. I let TAG know but heard nothing from them.

I only wear smart watches at work and only during workouts so I don鈥檛 use the Apple Health app for steps or calorie stats. I just had a quick look in Health and some stats do show up from the Tag. All my Activity Sessions on the TAG Sports App go to my Apple Activity App and shows the following, total time, distance, calories, elevation gain, avg HR, avg pace but NO Maps.

馃榾

EDIT : For No1 above I mentioned a reason or bug BUT thanks to Tag Guy I checked my settings again with no luck BUT looked in the TAG SPORTS APP and within that it has its own Settings and I fixed the issue by selecting (metrics rotation to ON)

That鈥檚 interesting, I read somewhere that it鈥檚 an iPhone problem ? Hopefully an Update can fix this and both Apple and Android users can use Maps on the watch if they choose to

Google Maps works well in Android.
You have to start the navigation in the phone and you can see / follow the instructions in the watch.
The watch is not autonomous, but it doesn鈥檛 mean that Maps doesn鈥檛 work.

That's not it's only intended function. Ask Google on the watch to take you somewhere, or on the app try and locate nearby places. This is a know issue on wear OS subreddit

Fix for number 1 is in the settings on the watch

When I bought my watch months ago I do remember a setting somewhere. I have gone through every setting many times over and can鈥檛 see anything relating to tapping the screen to change the view like I was able to do, maybe the last update added a bug ? I鈥檒l try again

Can we really only put connected gen3 straps on it? Has anyone tried to fit a regular strap yet?

You can put regular straps, but first you will need to brake the factory installed spring bars, and put standard spring bars. @TAG GUY was brave enough to did it 馃槈 It鈥檚 explained here:

Thanks @Albert-AMG - I searched the forums and didn鈥檛 find that post. Going to check out the 22mm options before I do anything too rash. Would at least want a matching black ceramic strap and a rich tan leather (I love the leather strap that came with my Kingsman 45, similar to the Heuer 01 version) before I did that. If I were a smarter engineer, I would try to work out a way to make my Connected 45 straps work...

WatchMaker in my watch is already in version 6.1.4 and still lags the watch down.
No improvement at all after the update that reportedly supported the Gen 3.
The app developers are a bunch of incompetent.

Or in the end it will turn out that Gen3 is actually less powerful than Gen2 with its Intel smartphone processor? 馃槈 Because Gen2 doesn鈥檛 have this problem running the WatchMaker watch faces 馃槜

I don't think that is the case, but time will tell.

This is not the case, mine is working perfectly with watchmaker from day one without any lags or hanging problem.
In watchmaker app, I choose " Wear OS smartwatch" in WATCH selection and not any version of Tag Heuer connected.

The watchmaker was working fine with 2nd gen and also working perfectly with the 3rd generation. Even with the 3rd generation, I am getting good battery life with watchmaker AOD ON compared to 2nd gen. It's last for more than 2 days 馃榾
