I think that, if the screen in auto mode and "on" status reacts to the ambient light, it's more likely a software issue. I could imagine that it is even not a bug but deliberate decision in an effort to keep the AOD status as frugal as possible. Probably it's an effort to claim improvement in battery life over the previous generation.
Actually there is another possible explanation. I am just noticing that the AOD status of my Fossil Sport with Snapdragon 3100 is a lot dimmer than the AOD status of my Connected Modular 45 with Intel processor. Maybe it is a light intensity script that comes with the 3100.
The Louis Vuitton has the 3100, and the Montblanc summit 2 and they do not have this problem.

There's a number of 3100, 8GB ram & 1GB storage watches available now. Crowded field with some big price differences (MSRP).

I added the CM41 into this list because of the same memory/storage and there are some reviews on it in direct comparison to the Summit 2 (2018). https://smartwatchseries.com/tag-heuer-connected-41-vs-montblanc-summit-2-compared/
I guess you could say from a tech standpoint the CM41 was competing against the new TH2020 late 2018/2019.

Note: The data in the table is from a public source and some items may not be correct or up to date.

It's probably already been mentioned, but there is a power saver tilt option in gesture settings. It turns off tilt to wake, but makes the aod light sensitive. Only works for official timekeeping face & Heuer 01c face, but it's actually quite good.

Also, does anyone know if there is an option in watchmaker to customize AOD brightness?

In the WatchMaker settings on the watch, you can set the Max Brightness (OPR) in bright mode (I have it at 70%), and also Max OPR in dimmed mode (I have it at 60%).

It also depends on the particular WatchMaker face, of course. If you want a luminous AOD dimmed mode, you should use faces without dimmed options that look the same in bright or dimmed mode, fully coloured and detailed.

Hmm I will look into this, although I have yet to wear the watch again since the black "leather" strap arrived. I refuse to wear it until TAG fixes the AOD and integrates their sports app with Google fit. Anyone notice Google updated the fit widget? Still a joke but a step in the right direction.Garmin Marq currently has the win in my book.

I did notice the Google Fit update on the iPhone but haven't seen anything on the watch yet. I'm hoping for the fit watch face in the next update.

New Gen3 owner here just to say very happy with the Tag Fitness App and layout of the minimum metrics (don't need more these days) on this excellent viewable screen for my older eyes 😀 Overall VERY happy with just about everything about this Gen3, I care ZERO about it made in China, to me its designed by tag and made in China just like my iPhone and my iPhone is excellent in every way, these watches are made to use for a few yers only. I also don't care about the difference in OLED and AMOLED to me the screen on gen3 is excellent and perfectly viewable in most conditions. Its a watch that will last me a few years and when Gen4 becomes available I won't dislike it to justify my gen3 purchase 😀

Been using Garmin from when they became available, great but many issues in the early days thankfully fixed with updates, were fun early days and useful for all my fitness needs. Have used the Apple Watches since day one.....both these brands worked mostly well for me. Wanted something new and decided to upgrade.....................

Last year was excited to hear about the Garmin MARQ but decided against it due to the low res screen, although I know it works well especially outdoors. Looked at Tag gen 2 but had no interest in the modular design although it looked good, also tried on the Connected 41 but decided to wait for gen3.......so happy I did and will wait until Garmin comes out with MARQ 2 😀

Originally, I told myself not to buy this watch because I don't think it the price increase is justified (when compare to the connected modular 45 which I own as well), this is after looking at the stainless steel version of the watch (find it too shiny for my liking, if it is brush steel and matte ceramic bezel then it will be better).

But anyway, yesterday I passed by the Tag Heuer shop again and the sales lady show me the black titanium version of the watch which has arrived in store and have stock... And she put the orange strap on it (comes with black strap and orange is additional)... And I was sold immediately (I guess she managed to "sell" me) lol... The matte black of the titanium with orange strap looks really stunning.

After playing around with it today, battery life is ok, last me the whole day but there are certainly room for improvement, might try turning tilt to screen on to off and see what happen. The build quality is top notch even though I initially does have concern about it being made in china, but build quality is actually very good.

I do wish Tag Heuer introduce more watch faces, the current Tag Heuer branded watch faces is quite limited, you will think this is something easy to do for them and they should introduce a bigger selection?

Finally, I really wise Tag Heuer will make a matching Titanium Black Braclet Strap (even though I do like the orange plastic strap, if this watch has a matching matte black titanium braclet then this watch will be show stopper.

Hey WOWPETER, your black titanium watch looks fantastic with the orange strap and I’m sure will look great with a black titanium bracelet if it becomes available.

Like yourself, initially I wasn’t sure to buy this watch because it’s made in China at a high price but it’s made very well and performs to my liking in many ways, so far after one week I’m very happy with my purchase.

I’m surprised WEAR OS is pretty good considering reviewers say it’s way behind Apple and garmin. I’m very happy with the TAG fitness app and it’s accuracy, seems it’s kind of working on it’s own with wear os on the background.

Enjoy your watch 😀

Congratulations! It’s much nicer than Albert’s Gen 2. 😝

Hello board! A new member is here. Briefly: have TAG Carrera Calibre 16 (black titanium) and just bought Gen 3 Connected. Liked the watch from the first sight, still like the look and functions, but I think I have a problem with this watch. Long story short: as soon as the battery charge approaches 20% the watch starts rebooting itself. If I catch up the menu between the restarts and select battery saving mode, then it will last in this mode for 15-20 min and then goes back to the reboot cycle. It continues doing that until is charged above 20%. Talked to TAG service, they sent me a script to clear the cache, but it did not cure the issue. Also, it takes much less time to go from 40% batter to 20% than going form 60% to 40%. Also there were couple occasions when the watch restarted "at will" during daily walk/run, so I am planning to send it back. Just wondering if some of you had the same problem. Cheers!

Honestly, sounds like u need to exchange it with a replacement. Sounds like u have a lemon.
however, have u tried "calibrating" the battery?
Calibrating = not to charge and forcefully kill the battery (high brightness, reboot it multiple times to kill the battery) until it completely dead.
then charge from 0 to 100, kill the battery again to 0 and recharge again to 100

Thank you. Yep. I did it several times 2 or 3, but it did not change anything.

100% defect. send it in while u in ur 30 days return period. i personally would not send it for "repair", as they will send u a refurb back or a "returned unit" or try to fix urs. if ur still in the return period, just send it back for a refund and re-buy.

Already contacted the TH US store. The customer support is very good. Waiting for the instructions on how to proceed. Would love to do through the AD, but not sure if it is possible.

I wanted to share a few observations after a couple of weeks playing with the G3 after having owned the connected 41 for 2 years:

Let me start by saying that I love connected 41 (G2). Even with it being a tad smaller than I like, it is a beautiful watch. If the G3 had not shown up, and me not being a slave to the upgrade, I would still be proudly wearing my G2.

1) They got the crystal right this time. The G2 crystal was very reflective and you could not use it to scan barcodes. No issues with the G3 even in direct sunlight. They have been able to scan my SBUX card every time. At first, I thought it was due to the screen size but my Huawei was the same size as the 41 and we could scan the barcodes on that very easily. I felt like, for the G2, Tag made a great casing for a mechanical watch and then swapped out the guts with electronics without making any changes to the case or crystal.

2) Crystal is now flush with the bezel. The G2 had a small gap which made some of the sideswipes troublesome

3) The straps seem easier to swap out than on the G2. For my G3, I have the steel and black rubber straps and found that changing the bands truly makes it look different moreso than the G2. I would have liked the black rubber strap on the G2 to be a tad thicker like the one for the G3. I never liked wearing the rubber strap on the G2 - it just felt cheap.

4) User-programmable side buttons. This is HUGE. Being able to have the two side button do whatever I want is major. Samsung, take note - your Bixby app sucks and I have a useless side button on my phone because of your stubbornness.

Hi. Question:
Is it easy to take the black buckle from the black strap and move it to a different strap? Is that possible? The buckle is not a quick release, I have the black TI but considering buying the red band, only if we can also move the black buckle. Let me know. Thank you.

It’s a standard spring pin which is fairly easy to remove with the supple rubber.
