50 years of the Monaco and also 50 years of Frank Williams in F1 too, just watched the programme on tv about him, I got this tie pin as birthday present from Williams GP Engineering maybe 40 years ago, not sure where the autographed compliments slip it with is, must look it out. Just thought I’d share.

Has anyone checked if replacement straps can be ordered for the Monaco 50's?

When I checked on the Monaco "Gulf First Win" black & orange rally strap, I was told replacement straps weren't available, since TH wanted to keep the strap exclusive to the very limited edition watch. But this was shortly after the model was released, so don't know if my local AD was making things up or if the strap became available later.

I really want to wear my Monaco 50 with its original strap as intended, but we all know that leather straps don't stand the test of time like metal bracelets do.

It might take a while for to trickle into stock, after all a dial* could be water damaged and need replaced?

* could that enable modded watches to be created?

I asked, as Mspeedster commented, I would like to wear the watch and keep a strap in mint condition, I was told they will become available but I could not get a timeline or a price ….

My guess would be that they will be available, but as a “first batch” they would have ordered only 50, with the expectation that they probably have a few months at least before there should be any real demand for a replacement.

Agree with you- I’m interested in the idea of buying one of these for my other Monacos.

Just curious, how many of you are daily wearing your Monaco 50's? Did you buy it to daily wear or as a collector's piece?

I bought mine to wear, have been constantly since I got it, and can't bear to take it off my wrist. But this is the first "rare" watch that I've ever owned. On my other watches, little scratches and nicks are like battle scars that I wear with pride of a watch well worn.

But I feel conflicted on this watch. I really want to keep it as pristine as possible, but I don't want it to be some museum piece that just sits on display or is kept in a safe. I just want to wear the sucker! But the more I do, the more worried I get as well. 😵‍💫

If you end up getting the box set, then you could wear the individual pieces, or sell them.

Either way, I think their overall value is probably more sentimental and than a long term investment.

Thing is, if I was to buy the first two now at asking on chrono24 they would cost close to 60-70% of a box set anyway.

Or I could possibly sell one or two of the ones I have to offset the cost. Keep the favourite to wear (at this stage the X).

Hey mate, I have a 90s like yourself and I am wearing it on occasion and being careful with it. My intent would be to get a replacement strap to keep pristine and either swap on later to wear or sell. I can’t actually see me selling mine though - I’ll happily watch them appreciate over time but I’ve really come to love the watch.

Unless you seriously intend to flip it as an investment it would be a shame to have it languish in a safe at home. I’ve seen the official release photos etc for Y and Z and I’m not really taken by them - they don’t have anything structurally different with the dials etc that set the first three apart, though the 10s have a Matt/beaded gunmetal case but it’s not enough to really capture me like the first ones.

Just my thoughts! 😀

Wow. I don't have money burning a hole in my pocket. But if I did, I'd buy the box set and keep that as my "pristine" collector's edition set and also keep the individuals to wear daily as I pleased.

Seems like you're intent on getting the whole set, if so I'd just get the box set and be done with it. You could sell your X and simply pass on picking up Y & Z individually (assuming you can get your deposit back).

What I learned from my boutique: there is no box set. A collector has to individually source each special edition watch. And then pay again to acquire one of the 50 presentation set boxes that will also be available. They must assemble their own "box set" piece by piece.

That contradicts previous advice that said that 50 of the 169 have been kept back to be sold as box sets.

Really? I'm not sure if I believe that. But if it's correct, then one is basically paying for a limited edition 1 of 50 empty box to put your collection in. 😕

Yes, I agree with @Mr_Orange this would change the original strategy, but I suppose it is possible, since how many people can sign-up for the boxset right away?

I have no intentions of selling mine ever, just want to keep it mint for me and my next generation. 😁

I've also been daily wearing mine. I find myself being super careful to where I'm kind of shielding the watch at times, which is unnatural. But I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. I suppose once this "honeymoon" period wears off I'll start to rotate back to some of my other watches again. 😗

It seems an odd way of doing it.... what if only say 10 people actually want the box? I would guess that what they might have meant was that while you can't actually order the box set, if you order all five in advance then you can order the box, maybe? Although I thought that expecting nearly a third of the 845 total pieces to go to 50 people was optimistic in itself...
