I think the anniversary would have been a great time to introduce the Heuer 02 movement in the Monaco line. Some new colors and straps just feels a bit "easy" and a quick cash grab for Tag... but then again, sometimes I need to remind myself that they are a business with one sole purpose; to make as high profit as possible

Hmm, maybe... on the other hand, why would they do that? The Calibre 11 is established as 'the' Monaco movement, so does the Heuer 02 in the Monaco make sense? They might be better of doing that in the Monaco 24 case, to distinguish it from the regular model perhaps?

The original calibre 11 yes. The current Monaco is a Calibre 11 only by name. The Heuer 02 makes sense as the subdial configuration matches.

The name matters, Steve McQueen never wore a Heuer 02. Plus the crown is on the wrong side and TAG would be a laughing stock if they contrived a Heuer 02 with a left hand crown.

But since it is a fake Calibre 11 movement either way they could modify the H02 movement and call it the new updated "in house Calibre 11"...

Not all modern Monacos are branded Heuer. So a Monaco with a Heuer02 movement could easily follow the TAG Heuer Calibre 12 layout.

Exactly, although the original right crown Monacos are often more desirable than the left crown, not in the least the dark lord.

Yes, having a Heuer-02 based "Dark Lord" re-issue on future years would be highly desirable in many of our wish lists.

I think we need to rally David to see if he can make this a @Calibre11 Special Edition!

The most 'obvious' thing to do would be a solid gold Monaco, but that wouldn't really sit well with TAG's 'affordable luxury' position, would it?

That’s a shame. That would have been my choice. Somethings different and special that was not simply a ‘Bamford’ job on the colour spec. The only one of the 5 letters leaked i’d have gone for was the 1st one.

Funny, I also noticed that using the google trick of pick a random letter that there are previous iterations that are remarkably similar to the last 3 letters of the alphabet. I refrained form commenting previously for fear of breaking any more embargo rules.... that went well for TH didn't it? ::facepalm1::

I think my next Monaco will be the gulf design or the classic blue.

What is the significance of the launch in 15 days time anyone?
^15 days will bring us close to the Le Mans race weekend.

Unless one of the next 4 really looks different when officially revealed, I'm likely going to pass on a 50th Monaco.

Another 50th anniversary this year is the Gulf sponsored Ford GT40's last win at Le Mans in '69. There's also the 50th anniversary of the movie Le Mans coming, as the infamous McQueen movie was released in '71, but was filmed during the 1970 season. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another Gulf "50 years of something" Monaco edition coming in the next year or two.

A "Le Mans Movie" 50 year Anniversary Edition would be lovely.

I don't think they will have any trouble selling them all.

A solid gold watch would not have been interesting to me. Simply making the same thing but out of precious materials is lazier than having a custom face, hands strap and caseback. And it would limit the buyers to only the most wealthy imaginable.
