But what I really want to talk about is that '60', or more to the point 'Time & Tide's' claim that the '60' represents some sort of tribute to the number on the iconic Gulf Porsche racing cars.
Do you think TAG Heuer told them that or did they make it up themselves? Cos I couldn't find a picture of a Gulf Porsche with a '60' on it, so I asked the THF Forum's resident Gulf expert and he told me it was a crock of shit.

Time & Tide are the only ones who said this. What all the other articles state is that TAG says the "font" (rather than the number) pays tribute to the racing number font used on race cars of that era. Which is also somewhat questionable, but not as bad.
Regardless, I think the shape of the 60 from afar looks quite similar to a more blocky version of the double rectangle marker that's normally used on the Monaco. So it's not something that would stop me from getting this watch.
The other funny thing is that my sales person at my TAG Boutique immediately contacted me about this watch, but she calls it the 60th anniversary Monaco because of the 60. I didn't have the heart to correct her, as I'm not sure if I want to place an order yet.
