Thanks for the write-up Rob- much appreciated :)

Speaking of Senna, the reason that I liked him goes back to the first Australian Grand Prix when I was 10. Senna was with Lotus at the time but I remember either he or his car had the Kangol logo..so I thought he must have been an Australian (albeit with a non-very-Australian name) with his green and gold helmet and Kangaroo logo. The fact that he was on pole position also helped!

A good read.. Well actually I got Siri to read it to me while I was stuck in traffic this morning.
Just so happened that it was set on a Female voice so your answers were like my perception of the perfect woman. i.e. One who is passionate about Heuer...anyway- I digress.

Your story of how you got into Tag Heuer and some of the watches which are dear to you are very similar to my own.
My first Heuer (Monza re-edition) purchased in Aus some 20 years ago just had me hooked.

I take from this reading this Interview (Which I must say was well structured by Aquagraph and a joy to read for Siri) and through reading your articles over the years that you are passionate on Design in all forms.
This was never more evident than when I experienced, first hand, the design or should I say restraint in design of the Calibre 11 Siffert Autavia. I like to think of this watch as the watch of the decade 2010-2020 adorning the Heuer livery. Of course Tag Heuer had a big part to play in the original make up and look but taking it that extra step will , in my opinion, make this watch in years to come to be an absolute classic.

Without attempting to re-interview you David, have you always been interested in Design and is it something you are passionate about?

    Cheers
    Darryn

I was waiting for your review on the TH Connected Modular! :) I tried to post a comment in your blog, but it doesn’t appear, so I post it here:

That’s an interesting review, Rob! Above all because it comes from someone not interested in smartwatches, and the review is focused just in half part: the “watch” part of the “smart-watch”

But in fact you already own a basic smartwatch: your TAG Heuer Microtimer is like a primitive smartwatch, it also shows a black digital screen when is out of battery ;)
The Connected Modular just shows more advanced graphics and has more features than the Microtimer, but both are digital watches (without mechanic hands) powered by a battery ::rimshot::

I have compared both the Connected Modular 45 and 41 on my wrist, and I think the 45mm it’s quite more proportionated... in fact it has a very similar design (case, lugs, and straps) of a 45mm Carrera (HEUER 01, 02, and 02T). For that reason, the only sentence of your article I don’t understand is when you write “but do I really believe people are going to be wearing their Calibre 5, 16 and Tourbillon modules in ten years time? Not really, no”... ::confused2::

Why not? The Connected Modular 45 with the Calibre 16 mechanical module looks almost exactly like the non-modular and non-skeleton Carrera Calibre HEUER 01...

Do you mean people are not going to wear this HEUER 01 in ten years time neither? I don’t think so! When my smartwatch module becomes obsolete, I will still enjoy my Carrera Calibre 5 and Calibre 16 modules with all my different Modular accessories during the rest of my life (hopefully more than 10 years!), and this is the meaning of the #connectedtoeternity motto for the TH Connected Modular

I think you have a point about the 45mm, it looks much more like the regular watch, but the 41mm looks much less 'right', it looks compromised and squashed, and I think for that reason it's evident that it's a module on a smartwatch base. But the most obvious giveaway is the black pieces at the top and bottom of the bezel, if it wasn't for those I think it would be a lot easier to pass it off as a regular watch. And also of course, it's the thickest Calibre 5 watch you could imagine - which again I'm sure is better on the 45mm as it's more in proportion. So yes I can perhaps see the 45mm still being worn in ten years, I still think the 41mm will lose an awful lot of it's value in time and that's why I think it will become quite a bargain. Slight error in the review though as of course they don't make the Cal 16 and tourbillons in the 41mm, sorry about that.

But having said, to me the modules will not hold their value like the 'proper' watches and so I stand by the conclusion that it might eventually become a 'cheap' way to own a tourbillon. Although, I wonder how many people have actually bought the tourbillon module...

It's also those black pieces, they look better on the 45 than the 41 as they seem to be flush with the bezel on the 41mm, not good.

OK @Aquagraph ! Now I understand you were talking just about the CM 41mm and its -not so well proportionated- Calibre 5 mechanical module.

Your reference to the Calibre 16 and Tourbillon mechanical modules made me think that you were also talking about the CM 45mm, but now is clear!

The HEUER 02 Tourbillon mechanical module (ACBF5A80) was no sold separately, just together with the “Luxury Kit” SBF8A8001.11EB0099 at 16.650€

So if someday one of this 02T modules is offered for sale, I guess it would be with the complete set. Anyway, it would be too expensive for my budget... the only Luxury Kit I have seen at ebay, was sold by 15.000€! :D

I have just searched now, and there is one of these Modular 02T for sale (used, with some scratches, and missing the full Luxury Kit set), at 11.705€ (12.995 US$):

    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.es/ulk/itm/202681839839

And there is also a complete
Luxury Kit for sale, with the big box, brand new at 16.000 US$ (14.412€):

I don’t think so. Maybe it’s a nice price for a Swiss Made Tourbillon, but it’s still a lot of money! ;)

    :D :D :D

Yes, the tourbillon module would be the definitive addition to my “Modular collection”, but at around 12-15.000€ is way too expensive for me!

On the other hand, there are three more straps arriving this week :D, and one of them is the white leather strap (very hard to find, because it’s not sold separately) from the Connected Modular 45 Golf Edition, which will be a nice but less expensive addition! ;)
