Good read Rob / @Aquagraph

I would put the French LE a bit higher than the CC, but I'm happy that won runner-up. I would have also been happy for the Night Driver, had it been selected.

As for the Skipper, I have a bit of a difficult relationship with it. While I am frustrated that it's such a departure from the original, I am glad it exists.

The thing that separates the Carrera CC for me, when compared to the other 42mm Carreras (formerly Elegants), is the inclusion of the tachymetre scale on the tension ring. Would like for them to do that more often.

That being said, the French LE was my #3 in WOTY voting.

Great Job once again Rob.

1st was no surprise. I think we knew from January it was going to win.
2nd was a surprise with the CC
3rd I was happy to see the Skipper. One of my favourite pieces.

Thanks again Rob. I know it's a big job being able to put these lists together. On behalf of the Entire Forum I thank you.

Happy New Year.

Thanks Rob!! In my opinion, this was a pretty good year for Tag releases. Some duds, but quite a few killer releases. Looking forward to 2024

My main takeaway from the couple of mins I had to flip through the releases this holiday, is how little called my name this year. I haven’t yet tried on the new glassbox to see if that works for me (I’m guessing not because of the weird bezel thing), and otherwise it seemed like a weak year with insistence on running seconds to the detriment of design. Still fancy that France LE thou.

thanks for all your hard work on the THEB Rob, it’s always a great read and probably the only independent watch review site left (how are TH not sending you free watches already?!)

Another great read, Rob! Such a shame that it just confirmed the inevitable though.

Fingers crossed that 2024 brings us a more diverse range of killer pieces.

Very interesting. Including the crushing victory of everything Carrera in the WOTY results table 😲

Although I have no doubt that this is a forum of exquisitely tasteful connoisseurs 😉, I am wondering how the COCO rankings compare with the TH sales?

Mmm, Carrera for the win, dressy and sporty. My feeling was TH were poor in their offerings this year, nothing really grabbed my wallet and shook it, or was a ‘How Much’.
Maybe we should all pm Jim with a “Where is the article?”

I was surprised by the Skipper’s score versus its third place finish in the WOTY vote. 📖

Yeah, it is a bit odd isn't it. For the sake of clarity, the Skipper scored 181 points, which was divided by 25 = 7.2
I used an adding calculator with a till roll exclusively to make sure there were no anomalies between scores.
Especially as not everyone scored everything so some things had 27 scores some 21, and everything in between.

Also for the sake of clarity, my votes were:

1st - Carrera Orange Lava Racing
2nd - Green Aquaracer
3rd - Carrera Chronotempvs

French was my fourth place... so I agree. I gave the Skipper a 5, and that was generous. 😲

Thanks Anthony. Yeah it was a foregone conclusion wasn't it? I thought the gold reverse 'panda' might have made a fight of it but thankfully not. With no more CBK glassboxes maybe it will be more a competition next year.

Yeah, it was quite good, just a shame it ended on such a duff note with the silly Vegas Monaco.

Something I ask myself daily. Haha... but no, cos then they would have me wouldn't they. A fridge magnet would be nice though.

Yeah, I have higher hopes for next year's poll. Although I still think it will be a Carrera.

Indeed. Probably not even close. Especially when you consider the top two combined only came to 674 pieces, wasn't it?

It's okay Martin, we've finished it and you can read it on Saturday.

Top 1 to 7 places all filled by TAG Heuer Carrera models! Truly the Year of the Carrera 👍

I’m glad the TAG Heuer Skipper made it 3rd in the podium! Having worn it most of the time this month, I’m glad I made the right choice. It truly emits a positive and cheerful vibe 👍 Not to disappoint the Hodinkee Skipper owners, but although I initially wanted one, the TAG Heuer reinterpretation is more faithful to the original specifically because of the two subregisters but with a modern glassbox touch. Colors pallete are also much closer.

Here's a sneak preview....

ROB: We also saw the launch of the sexy two tone models this year with the solid gold bezel insert. I was worried when I saw the photos and renders because they looked terrible. But in person they were a completely different beast and so cool on the rubber straps.

JIM: What can I say. Enttäuschung is the German word for disappointment. These two-toners were a total enttäuschung to me. Of course I compare them to the greatest two-tone TAG Heuer watch ever manufactured, the WBD2120, which is one of my grail pieces.

Yes sure, the new ones released this year look nice in hand, especially the blue with yellow gold bezel but I just can't get over that they only come on rubber strap, something you find cool but I see as a negative detail since it doesn't provide that Rolex bluesey inspired look that I love about two-tone divers.

ROB: But what you really find disappointing, I would venture, is that these classy new pieces don't give off the utterly douchebaggy vibe you're searching for. Am I right?

JIM: Yes this is correct. When the day comes and I go gold, it will be with a nice flair and style of ultimate douchebaginess. If people don't think of you as a douchebag, what is the point of wearing gold, honestly?

Having owned several glassbox Heuer Heritage Carreras, I believe the new glassbox design is in a good direction for TAG Heuer moving forward, and for alot of watch enthusiasts to enjoy. I think the only main issue-complaint with the Heuer Heritage Glassbox Carreras are that they are limited and not in the main catalog.
