I know. But that in itself speaks volumes, don't you think? Even leaving aside the price (which is extremely difficult to do) it didn't excite me in the slightest.

yeh.. I guess. But a comparison with the your heuer 01, comment on how noticeable or not the empty corners are, weight and presence on the wrist, etc, would have been cool to read. I guess if it doesn’t excite, it doesn’t excite (I get it, this is how I felt when I tried on the solargraph).

The commentary about TH pricing and driving the brand up market is important enough to be an article itself. You could even give it a really clickbaity title ‘why I’m never buying a new TH again’

Apparently they have the turquoise in Sheffield, sitting in the cabinet. No waiting list...

at half the price I might be interested

To be honest it was so long since I tried it on anyway.... sometimes I start a post and by the end the post isn't really what it started out as - but then if you want cookie cutter posts then Hodinkee is the place. Primarily I try to entertain the reader and sometimes that comes at the cost of the details. I tend to think that most people who are reading my blog have at least a fair amount of experience trying on TAGs and know what a Monaco feels like on the wrist, for sure it was a bit lighter on the wrist, but... I don't know. Sometimes you're just not excited, and when that happens it's hard. It's easy to review things you love and hate, but things that are boring are the hardest.

On the other hand, I appreciate your suggestions... no way in hell is this better than the Heuer 01! But there are definite similarities with this one in particular.

I actually don't review every watch I try on, because a lot of times it's a similar story. In this instance the title/subject matter was more of a frame for all the other stuff that I wanted to write about - if that makes sense.

Totally get it, and it’s YOUR blog! So in conclusion I should buy a Heuer 01 and a used Rolex, not a Monaco Skeleton?

Yes. Well, definitely a Heuer 01. Fine, proven Japanese movement. 😁

Another good read. Reading between the lines, can I assume you’re not fussed on this one? 😉

I've never pretended to know what I'm talking about, but the readership keeps growing so I must be 'entertaining'... 😁

The only thing in my opinion about the article is the last bit - about who the skeleton is aimed towards. In my opinion, a person with a SMcQ or a Dark Lord Tribute won't go for this model. Those folks are still a bit more sensible and are trying to maintain a connect with the Monaco heritage. The skeletons are mostly aimed at the boys and girls who are mostly saving money for an RM. but they want to show off a skeleton in the club or a yacht.

Perhaps with the SMQ, but I think the Dark Lord is probably more aimed at the bling collector than the serious Heuer fan. I mean how many times did we hear what a missed opportunity it was when it came out? But then even with the SMQ it does rather have that 'the one to have' tag on it, and not necessarily because of personal taste.

Agreed. But those 2 at present are the closest to the OGs that we have in the market. A person who wants to stay true to the heritage today would go for a Carrera anyway.

I know the Dark Lord doesn't appeal to the Heuer fanbois.... cos I really like it. Hahaha

Any watch brand claimimg that titanium is difficult to machine is full of shit of course. Perhaps this was true decades ago when they started using titanium fot watches but these days even micro brand and Chinese shitters use full titanium cases with a sales price of a couple hundred.
This one here is a Chinese titanium watch with a titanium bracelet (with toolless microadjust, s'il vous plaît) and a Sellita SW200-1 inside. Go and guess the price!

And if you get it right (+/- 100 bucks), I’ll tell you which grade titanium it is 😉

So yes - currently I can hardly imagine a more absurd watch marketing nonsense than that machining titanium commands a huge premium…

You lost me at SW200-1.

All jokes aside I am guessing it’s Grade 5 and something ridiculous like $300-$400?

I bet I did 😁

Bit too optimistic. It’s 500-ish before import duties, local VAT, etc. And yes: Grade 5 Ti (except for some few parts apparently done in Grade 2 - mainly around the clasp). Still - how much more expensive can it be to have the same CNC machine operation (plus some final manual finish & QC) running in the Jura?

Well the inserts / tooling will be a little more expensive and they'll probably use them quicker... but £1000 is a joke.

San Martin should have sand blasted the case to make it more luxurious 🙄 I don't like how San Martin uses a mix of brushed and polished surfaces on titanium, much more premium with one big splash of sand blasting all around 🙄

I'm more curious about why @Aquagraph seems to have had a change of heart, I got the distinct impression that Rob liked these Monaco Skeletons when they were being released.
E.g.
So, you know... the more you guys hate on these new skeletor Monacos, the more I'm gonna like them.
Or were you just being the "contrarian" Rob?
