This is typical of the majority of Americans, even back in the early '90s during Senna's heyday. Very few knew of him, let alone how to pronounce his name correctly. đŸ€Ł

Not sure why that’s surprising. I mean have you heard the way they pronounce Daniel “Cregg”!?!

Yeah we can't pronounce Daniel's last name correctly either, but at least we know who he is. In the full video, nobody knows who Senna is.
But it doesn't seem to display here correctly and the youtube video leaves out the part where everyone has no clue who Senna was, which is what I was really referring to.

Apologies, I just couldn’t help myself.

In fairness though, I wonder if many everyday people outside the US could tell you who the NASCAR drivers are?

It’s just life I guess, much as he was a legend.

NASCAR isn't a global sport though, not like F1. Just like I have no clue about UK football players (soccer to us silly Americans).

I've mentioned before, not to you in particular, but just in general. That while Senna & F1 likely helped TAG's sales a lot in the late '80s/'90s from a global perspective, TAG's popularity in the US wasn't due to Senna or F1. Very few knew who he was, only motorheads like me.

My French is non-existent, but Google Translate to the rescue.
I have the Seiko A781 Racing Master, it seems to work but I don't know how to enter the length of the circuit to calculate the average per lap, what it can do... Who has a user manual? and Happy New Year 2025 to all
Cool that you got one! I assume it's black like Senna's, please share a pic. 😀

I found this instruction sheet, does it help?

While I enjoyed the Netflix Senna series immensely, Senna's racing exploits are well known to me. I had hoped it would cover more of his personal life. So, I've been reading various things on my own.

As I mentioned previously, most believe Adriane Galisteu was the love of his life, others feel it was Xuxa Meneghel. However, there was a third love who he dated in-between Xuxa and Adriane, American Supermodel Carol Alt and she might've been the one.

Ayrton's & Carol's relationship was less known to me. It was a secret affair, because Carol was married at the time. But according to Carol, Senna was the love of her life and one of her biggest regrets, as she feels they would've ended up together had he not died.

This Vogue article covers their story (it's in Italian, but can be translated), taken from an interview with Carol Alt:
https://www.vogue.it/article/ayrton-senna-carol-alt-storia-amore Here's some amusing excerpts:
--
As often happens to those souls who fit together perfectly, between the two it took just one look to trigger love at first sight. "The photographers kept asking me to pose next to this guy with a strange name. I didn't know who he was and when they told me he was a driver, I thought he was the "Chauffeur". He was much shorter than me, my heart was beating, instinctively I took off my heels. He smiled and said: "thank you". Me: "No problem"», the model will tell the Corriere. Immediately afterwards the pilot invited her to dinner and she refused before changing her mind: "My assistant ordered me: 'Carol you're crazy, go!'" he will say. It was at that moment that their overwhelming and clandestine love story was born.
--
For three years the two dated as soon as possible, chasing each other around the world. And in a stealthy way, since Alt kept the relationship hidden from her very jealous husband. So only several years later she would remember some moments they spent together, such as the time they went to dinner in an elegant restaurant: "It was me and him. Under the plate he had put a gold watch, beautiful. But I don't realize it, I spill the plate on the ground, the glasses fall. He turns red. A disaster. But I still keep that watch today, it was important." Or like the escape they made together, in Italy: "He drove his Ferrari in the countryside, I laughed happily next to me. After that crazy race we stopped to refuel in Novara, but Ayrton didn't know how to do it. So he knocked on the window of the gentleman in line behind us, to get help. That guy started shouting: "Oh my God, but you're Ayrton Senna!" And his wife next to him, shouting louder: 'And you're Carol Alt!': it was comical."
--
I wonder what kind of watch he gave to Carol? A gold TAG Heuer? Or maybe another brand like Rolex?

This excerpt is sad, given what would happen...
--
But as time continued to pass and the situation did not change, the Brazilian rider - who was not used to being second to anyone - went so far as to give Carol an ultimatum, also because deep down he feared that his life could end every time he raced. "He told me: we have to hurry, we don't have much time," Alt told Verissimo in March 2023, recalling how Senna constantly urged her to make a decision and follow it to the end. But he did not succeed.

My Senna collection had been fairly stagnant for quite a while. But in this past year I added 3 of his vintage watch models (Seiko A828-4010, S/EL S25.206 & S/EL S25.706C). Also a few model cars. My new to me additions (oops, forgot the Lego McLaren).

Here's a documentary that shows Senna's personal life and hobbies. This was made during the winter hiatus after winning the 1990 world championship.

I especially enjoyed the segment about the Karting track on his personal estate. At the end of the race (about 28:40 seconds in), he gives away a bunch of TAG Heuer watches to the kids. I believe they're Formula1s.

Throughout most of the documentary, Senna is wearing his Anthracite dial S/EL ana-digi.

The question is where is the watch now? I'm pretty sure it's not in Chaux des Fonds. Unless it's hanging on the wall in the boardroom?
During my visit to the museum I forgot to ask. They have one in a display case, and 1 on the arm of a doll with a racing suit. Both not the og Senna.
Oh? I might be mistaken. I thought I read somewhere it had found its way into the TH Museum. If it's not there, then probably still in the hands of some private collector. I believe it was first auctioned in 2004 for about $12K. Then auctioned again in 2007 for about $69k. https://cars.bonhams.com/auction/15487/lot/50/the-ayrton-senna-tag-heuer-gents-wristwatch-1990s/
I'm not sure what happened after that.
According to a caption in this Esquire article, https://www.esquire.com/uk/watches/a63406204/inside-tag-heuers-dollar1-billion-formula-1-deal/ , Senna's S/EL S25.706C is in the TAG Heuer Archives (Museum).

I hope Esquire is not confusing Ayrton's personal 6000 Senna Edition Prototype, which was given back to TAG Heuer last year and now sits next to his helmet.

But if Senna's personal S/EL ana-digi is there too, I'd think it should be displayed next to his helmet as well or in some other prominent viewing spot.

Perhaps one of the visitors who have recently been to the museum can confirm this?

It looks like the S/el has been swapped for the 6000.

Yeah, the pic with the 6000 Senna Edition Proto was taken by @plibou at the 2024 Collectors Summit in Nov. So, it's fairly recent.

‘Model’ worn by.. Not watch
That Esquire article about TAG's return to F1 has a number of minor mistakes in it. Which is why I wonder if they might've confused which of Senna's personal watches is now in the TH Archive.

However, the caption was very specific to his S25.706C which was last auctioned in 2007. If it was never auctioned again, and TH does indeed now own it, it means it likely changed hands via a private sale. Which raises the question of why wasn't it auctioned? Because I would think the watch today would go for a lot more than $69,000 USD.

Whatever the case, I still have doubts. Would be good if someone who visited very recently can confirm, like @Jeff Stein, @abcoro, @plibou, or @SteveP, who attended the 2024 Collectors Summit.
