So; on the pelagos 39mm. Having seen it in the flesh today:
1. The 39mm size is definitely better for me than the normal pelagos. I can wear 42mm though. Just a preference thing. All watches for me are benchmarked as big or small by the TH1000 i wore for 20yrs…. That will always be the standard unit of watch size for me.
2. I definitely prefer the dial features of the normal pelagos (the markers indented into the Rehaut, and a DATE).
3. The sunburst is moderate (barely noticeable in the store); it just looked glossy; although the assistant said its more noticeable under natural light.
So. Would i buy the pelagos 39mm? No - well not in black anyway - its just a bit too similar to my 844 to fit in my collection. And as you can see i found some other things to spend money on!
Do i think its a credible/attractive option for those wanting a submariner but unable to afford one? Or wait for years? ABSOLUTELY. And I do think Tudors value proposition (price, quality, accuracy) is hard to beat at the moment.
In terms of the big vs small theme on this thread, I think it will slot in nicely ALONGSIDE the pelagos in the range. For me it reminded me a little of the way the bathyscaphe sits alongside the 50 fathoms.
