I really don't understand the level of vitroil towards the, frankly, very subtle running seconds hand. It has to be the least offensive design feature of any watch, ever!

Totally agree.. I may be a bit biased due to owning this piece but without the Running Seconds it looks empty and unfinished.

Tiiiiny tiny change but I realized it was irking me, looked weird!

Looks so much better now, a true classic IMO. This, I believe, has fixed the watch completely.

So now it's time to play a bit with designs 😁

Hmm.... may I suggest maybe you look at Rolex's catalog? They sure do love putting novels on the dial, but this Carrera is much more elegant without.

It looks very nice 👍

Maybe you can add another tiny change: these two markers that are missing after the movement of the “SWISS MADE” text 😉

Am I correct in thinking this reimagining doesn't have any running seconds? Not really viable if you ask me, which is probably why Tag decided to add it in the most subtle way possible rather than creating a proper third subdial.

Not sure I own a watch without a seconds hand? that would be back to the days of picking it up and putting it to your ear to see it’s it was running, not a chance with my hearing now.
Like the style with a full size hand and only 2 sub dials.

I dont have one without running seconds either. @imagwai your Autavia is without it right, how is life with a "dead looking" watch? Does it ever bother you you seeing that ticking seconds hand?

It's weird... especially considering what else it has!

Nice catch! As you can tell I am not a photoshop pro 😜
Will add it in if I have some more free time, before coming up with the crazier designs!

Yes, you're correct, no running seconds on my 1163V. It's certainly not a deal-breaker. As a rule I prefer to have it - I can more accurately tell how many seconds my watch is gaining or losing per day. But in day to day use, you don't actually use it that much, plus it's quicker to set in the morning because I don't need to wait for a second hand to reach the top. Thankfully, my Autavia keeps really good accurate time, otherwise I might miss it more.

And yes, @Pitfitter446, I do need to put it to my ear to check it's running before I set the time.

Anyway, to my original point, I think it's fine on a vintage watch, but surely a modern watch needs running seconds. I once bought a microbrand watch with a mechaquartz movement in it - was a surprise to learn it didn't have running seconds. Didn't stay long.

Why not? The Chronomatic movements didn't have a running seconds initially, and in fact was only added for the "economy" Cal 15 model. I love wearing them too as I actually really like the variety and simplicity.

You also may want to tell @kappa_md that his Viceroy re-edition isn't viable as it does not feature a running seconds ::stirthepot:: (meanwhile it is most certainly my favorite variant of the new Autavia lineup)

Honestly I think that if they wanted a running seconds, they should have added a full subdial. Someone else can mock that up if they like!

It's a bit easier for me - if I'm putting my watch on at 8am and it reads 8am, I'm all set!

See my post just above yours - looks like I beat you to it. As I said, I think it would be highly unusual for a modern watch not to have running seconds. People expect it to be there, so would lead to lots of complaints potentially if it wasn't. And yes, I agree that a full subdial is better - I generally dislike the half-baked one too. But it looks like they were trying to solve the problem with minimal impact on the look (and perhaps failed?).

I wouldn’t know it was 8am until I checked the watch. Or not of course.😟

I actually like the 2 register Autavia Viceroy H02, it looks and feels more like the original IMHO. I usually just turn on the chronograph to see running seconds if I want to 👍 Then another click if I want to stop it. Fairly simple actually.

But like all classic Heuers, the words

AUTOMATIC
CHRONOGRAPH

fills the 6 o’clock space. I read from somewhere that the US market doesn’t understand the contraction of the word “CHRONOMATIC” so Heuer rightfully just used the two words separately 📖 and thus Chronomatic was replaced with “Automatic Chronograph”

Oh? I beg to differ!

Maybe I'll try moving "Swiss Made" to just "Swiss" above the date window, might help.

Okay my bad. Maybe not all but most! Most of the known ones 😉 And plus, it won’t make that space looking unbalanced and empty. There is something displeasing to the eye if you just keep it blank IMHO

Add Heuer Monza, Heuer Silverstone and the Heuer Carrera 1158 CHN on that list with a 9-3 register subdial layout and where the 6 o’clock area placed with “Automatic Chronograph” text. I believe it was placed there so that space won’t be looking empty. Maybe not a crosshair seconds but text would do for me 👍

And then there's the Fragment solution:

How could he dare to delete 'swiss' from the dial! That's even nastier than to sacrifice the sweeping seconds 😉.
