Hi- and welcome. No such thing as a stupid question around here 😉

So, the answer is "kind of"

The correct watch is a Heuer 1614 Champion Edition (a brand of Spark plugs associated with motorsport)- these were made in France for Heuer in the late 1970s:

https://www.vintageheuer.com/products/heuer-1614-french-made/

Your watch looks to have the correct dial and hands (there were a few variants for the hands), but inside a non-Heuer case.

Hi all. I am new to the forum. I also know nothing about watches so please forgive me for any stupid questions. I was given a Heuer watch a year or so ago that was my wife’s grandfather’s. I got to looking into it and am very curious if it is authentic or not. It is not in very good condition. It was worn as a regular watch for years. Anyway, I can’t even figure out the exact model. Please help me out if you can.
Hi, yes, looks like wrong case. Thats a very standard back sig on generic “service” cases of 1970s.

So, we are thinking that all of the parts and gears are correct, just the wrong glass and exterior? In this condition, and instance, what would you think it would be worth?

Correct. A few hundred dollars I’d say...honestly not that much as any collector would be buying the watch for parts

have you opened the back and looked at the mechanism? Also it may be signed in inner part of the case back..

You never know, but assuming this is not the original case, you might find the matching stuff on eBay or chrono24 or something. I bought a perfect, heavily discounted breitling 7734 with unsigned case a year ago, am still looking for the correct case for it.

Hello

So I just purchased a Tourneau and I hope it is legit. The movement doesn't have Lemania Watch Ltd stamp on it. It works and keeps great time. Any replies would be appreciated greatly.

Cheers

It looks OK to me, but it's also possible that the private-label Tourneau watches had slight variations on parts - so if you're concerned about something in particular, it may not actually be a problem

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I can tell it has some age and the chronograph sec hand has lost some of the orange. Can those be bought for a replacement?

It won't be easy to find, and when you do it won't be cheap to buy. You could set up eBay alerts or post a WTB ad here or on Chronotrader, but be careful doing your homework on sellers.
It's possible TAG may have parts if you send it in, but I don't think they'll just give you a part - it'll probably require a full service.

The option I'd take is maybe looking around at different watchmakers, and seeing if anyone is good enough to repaint the hand.

Agree. The other point I made by e-mail to this question was that if someone went to the trouble of putting together this watch from parts, they would have swapped out the dial for one with a Heuer logo.

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

hello everyone, i am a tag heuer watch lover .. i want to ask to you, is the letter on the back of the backcase is a feature of the authenticity of the tag heuer watch? or there are several types that use and some are not?
thank you, please clarification because some people around me tell me that if there is no letter on the back of the backcase, then it is a fake tag heuer, that is true ?
Thankyou so much

Hi, could you let us know/show us what model this is? Also this is the vintage Heuer section, if it is TAG Heuer you may have more luck in the that forum.
Thanks, Steve

Hi, Could som of you help me to decide if this Heuer Montreal is real or fake? or maybe a franken?
I think everything is a bit off with this watch. My dad bought it in Italy some while ago.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for posting. Interesting Montreal and your suspicions are correct. This falls firmly in the 'franken' category I'd say. The case itself looks fine, the dial has been refinished (presumably), the hands also aren't correct. The movement.....strangely, seems to be an original Heuer Cal 11 movement which, while not correct for a Montreal, seems to be OK.

I could live with that movement inside a Montreal but the hands and dial would need changing...if it were me.😉

Hope that helps?
Steve

As I thought and have told my dad. Had a little hope it maybe could be a prototype because of the Heuer cal 11 movement.

Thank you for replying

Hi Jacob, no problem. The font isn't 'regular' so I don't believe so, however if you could let me have the serial number from the top end of the case I should be able to clarify further.
Thanks, Steve

Can't see any number on the top or bottom. Pretty sure is not a prototype
