About a month ago my boyfriend bought a Tag Heuer watch for me that he had purchased from a complete stranger. I have been researching it online to see if it's real or a fake but I'm still just as confused as I was when he first gave it to me. I have been online and seen all the things you can check to determine a fake or not and everything seems to check out right except for it having a reference model number and serial number. Mine only has one set of numbers. I read where Tag's made before 1992 doesnt have serial numbers engraved on them. I'm hoping that is why I'm only seeing one set of numbers. The face seems to be sapphire crystal cause I did the water test and i have woren it everyday for the past month and the face hasn't gotten scratched at all and I'm very hard on jewelry too. All the engravings seem to be correct and in the right spots and nothing looks glued on. If anyone could help me out I would be very grateful. It's suppose to be an Aquaracer 200 Meters Mother of Pearl face I guess

Well, caseback says automatic chronograph 1/10th second and dial is just a 3-hander, I would call it a fake.

It's a fake I'm afraid. No such model number. And it's not an automatic chronograph. Other things look wrong too, such as the date window, dial printing, bracelet engraving and just overall look and thickness of the watch.

Why do you need to take it to someone to look at? If you want confirmation, you can send it in to Tag Heuer or take it to an authorized dealer. Personally, I wouldn't waste any more time on this watch unless your boyfriend can get a refund from whoever sold it to him.

There is absolutely no question that this watch is a fake. I promise. There is more expertise in this thread than just about any place you can take this to be seen in person. Do not waste any of your time taking it to someone.

I will say tho, that this is the first time I've seen a fake Exclusive before. It's really tough to fake the two piece bezel design of that watch.

Hi @TabathaGreen - welcome to the forum! I'm sorry, but I must concur with my fellow members. Your watch is fake - no question. No need to take it to someone in person. If you want to learn more about the Aquaracer series, or TAG Heuer in general, the Calbre 11 website and this forum are fantastic resources. I'll post a link that you may find useful:

https://www.calibre11.com/ultimate-guide-tag-heuer-aquaracer/

Here you will see that the AR series is derived from the 2000 series, and first appeared in 2004 as the "2000 Aquaracer". In 2005, TAG Heuer dropped the "2000" and the series became the Aquaracer and has remained so to this day.

Is your boyfriend able to return the watch? I hope he didn't spend too much on it and is able to get a refund so he can get you a genuine TAG Heuer! Actually, regardless of the refund, I say he should still get you one! LOL.

Well first of all, the S/EL is not an 80s watch that nobody cares for.... as a glance at eBay will show. I own three mind you so I could be biased."

I wasn't ragging on the S/EL, that's the description I came across while reading the Ultimate Guide.
"While a hugely popular watch during its time, the TAG Heuer S/el is somewhat friendless when it comes to collectability today."
"Ask people why they don’t like the S/el and the answer tends to be that the design is 'too 1980s'."
"...but I guess this reflects the way that the S/el is seen today- a fine watch to be sure, but one forever part of the 1980s."

Everyone thinks of the SEL as an 80s watch but it was more a 90s watch, first appears 1988 - leaves 1999.

I agree. I got my two Tags in 1992 and the one I'm trying to sell is also from the 90s but it was here that I read it was an 80s watch.

I personally love the design and I would love to have my two tone S/EL back, I'd wear it all the time. I quit caring about whether something was current/in style after I got out of high school
