Wait now, genuine movement used by Tag made in Thailand??

From what I've seen on other forums, including this thread on Watchuseek, for certain movements, TAG Heuer (and other watch houses) will source parts from within Switzerland (and other areas depending on requirements and regulations) and ship them to other countries with presumably lower labor costs for assembly. The completed movements are then shipped back to Switzerland and then cased in accordance with "Swiss Made" guidelines.

Oh shit that is interesting. Lost a bit more respect for Tag... I've said it many times, the whole swiss made phenomenon is such a marketing scam.

lol how do you think all these counterfeit watches have "real" tag heuer movements in them? They buy them from the same place Tag Heuer does .

purchased another "new" watch from watchingo in New york https://www.ebay.com/usr/watchingo spent over 1200 on this one and it was a fake as well. matches my post above.. This time a fake "gulf" edition box was included as well. What kills me is that i called an talked to this seller with 15k feedback before buying and was reassured it was authentic and with warranty.

Well, maybe one day I'll have enough money for a handmade, in-house movement cased by Lange, but until that day comes, I am grateful for the TAG Heuers of the world willing to generate watches that are willing to invest in higher quality materials and, dare I say, craftsmanship, for an intermediate price point when compared to a $25 or even a $250 watch.

Sorry to hear that - I must say you may have more luck purchasing authentic gray-market watches which were not limited quantity special editions. The higher profile, the more incentive to counterfeit.

I've suspected they were selling fakes. Good to know I,m right. They have 1200 tag heuer watches listed tho. I really don't get it.

That's odd - it works for my 2011 Link.
If you enter the model number and serial number in URL ( http://www.tagheuer-edouardclub.jp ), you can check if the item was sold from an authorized dealer in Japan. With this system, even older generations such as CG 1123 can be checked.

It's the way everything is built, and has been since about the mid-80s.

Aston Martin used to ship the chassis to Italy in the 1960s, Touring (IIRC) made the 'Superleggera' (Super-Light) body on the chassis, then the shipped the assembly back to the UK to fit the engine. The engine was made in house, but the gearboxes (iirc) were mostly bought in from outside, as were the shocks, the wheels, the steering wheel, and other ancillary parts, etc, etc.

Bentley these days buy gearboxes from outside, shocks, wheels etc etc.

Why make it yourself when you can buy a damned good product in from outside?

I think all this is a bit of a hangover from the old days when (for example) Germany were renowned for making 'quality' products whereas anything from China was likely to break the first time you used it. It just isn't like that any more... I'd like to say everything from everywhere is good quality, but actually country of origin is no longer a guarantee of anything by itself.

I really don't think the 'Swiss Made' is that big a deal any more, we all know the rules are designed to enable the big players to make more money. Hardly anyone makes their own dials, does it matter where they come from really? Maybe if you are buying a Patek, but holding a mass market entry level brand to the same standards is a bit daft really.

Yes that makes sense but I think it should be illegal to name something Swiss made when it is not made in Switzerland. Thats what bothers me about the whole scam

I can see, and sympathise, with the argument. But then, the vast majority of commerce these days is also marketing. And in Marketing you can say what you want until someone calls you on it.

I used to work for Cambridge Audio - all our stuff had a Union Flag on it: made in China, Designed in Britain.
