If you think about it, it makes sense for fakers to make things that they can diversify. So they will make basic F1s/Aquaracer where they can do several different dial colours to max their sales. Your F1 has a distinct bezel, too much effort for little reward.

do you think the alarm puts them off too?

It's probably does, as the movement will be more expensive and probably alarm watches aren't that popular anyway...

Yes the movements are pretty expensive while the alarm is quite pointless.🙁

The guy isn’t just a watch seller but the Aquaracer seemed slightly off maybe. This is the watch I purchased, which did seem legit but then I became concerned.

And this is the seller. And the open case photo of that Aquaracer he’s selling that first made me ponder.

Appears seller may have sold fake Tiffany.

Do all Aquaracer's say "Aquaracer" on the dial? Not buying one but the real ones I saw online seemed to have it, in looking at the other seller's offering and then at the large number of sites offering fake ones, they all appeared to omit Aquaracer on the dial.

Just an update on how my deal went in the end.

A quick catch up. I bought a Tag from a Private seller on Chrono24.

Was suspicious when the watch serial came back for a different watch on Tag.hr/warranty

Turned out watch was fake.

Seller was originally in UK (I'm in Ireland) and when I wanted to return it the seller wanted me to post it to Latvia

So Chrono24 helped out with the shipping (50euro out of 93) and I sent it back.

The seller went dark. No replies to messages and Chrono24 seem to be especially bad at answering emails.

So I came up with a different plan to help myself.

When a watch is in the middle of sale it comes up as reserved for everyone else on Chrono24. So I made a new account with a fake name etc. and clicked on Activate Notification.

Then Contacted the seller with this fake account asking a couple of silly questions about the strap and how old it is etc.

He replied to the fake account in a few hours and immediately after I said I was interested he released the refund on my real account.

In the meantime he sent me a message to my real account stating that he wanted £100 for being out of pocket for the postage and having to relist it and said I had damaged the watch which I hadn't.

And that he wasn't going to release payment until I paid him. But he had already released the refund and I received an email saying that the refund was on it's way back to me.

The refund arrived this morning on the card and I deleted the fake account that had been haggling with him over a price. The watch is still up on Chrono24 despite me reporting to them that the watch is a fake.

I almost paid a decent noob tax on trying to buy too fast.

Do your homework and if you have to use Chrono24, make sure it's from a seller that has a Bricks and Mortar shop to back it up.

I'm in the process of buying from a reputable seller but not on that website.

I just relooked with the exact model the guy is selling -- WAB1120 Aquaracer-- and it appears these don't state the name so my concern with the dial may have been wrong. There are a large number of "replica's" of this out there though.
One presumedly legit one from tourneau: https://www.tourneau.com/watches/pr...-stainless-steel-quartz-wab1120-VHE09450.html
Not my style but it was what made me wonder (besides the Tiffany lamp dustup).

That's because it's actually a 2000 series. In fact, in 2004 TAG Heuer came out with the "2000 Aquaracer". Then in 2005, the 2000 series became the Aquaracer series. You can read a bit more about it at the end of this article:

https://www.calibre11.com/tag-heuer-2000-series/

And the catalogue from 2004 shows this model on page 42:

https://www.calibre11.com/catalogues/tag-heuer-annual-catalogues/2004-tag-heuer-catalogue/#2004-043

Hope that helps!

I'm not rich. This was my first big watch purchase over maybe €150. So a big jump for me. And for what up until now is my dream watch. I know it's very low key for some of you but an Automatic Aquaracer has always been the watch I wanted to someday get myself. I think most of my anxiety was more down to the scamming part and not the money. And I knew I had to think of something clever to be one step ahead. I thought he might guess what was happening but I'm guessing the $$$ were just to big to resist.

I've always loved watches but never able to afford anything over a measley budget. I love my Casio Edifice watches and my citizen watches I've picked up over the years. My father passed away a couple of months ago and while he wasn't in depth into watches, he liked a nice watch. So from a small bit of inheritance we got I decided to buy the timepiece I always wanted. And maybe that added to the anxiety feeling like I failed. But thankfully it looks like it's all working out for the best and my new watch should be here Monday.... And it's real

Good outcome I guess, although he is obviously using this same watch to extract money from people. Shame Chrono24 can't do more to stop this seller.

And yes, seller reviews and doing your homework are just as important on Chrono24 as they are on eBay.

I'm not rich either, only having been a factory shop floor engineer in my working life and I didn't get my first Tag till 2008 at the age of 50.
I rate the Aquaracer too, the brushed bezel, polished case, secure bracelet and the blue dial.
I hope you'll have a wrist shot on Monday of the new watch for us 👍
It's something positive to think about too.

I sure will. I've gone for the black one instead of the blue. I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting for it to arrive

Sorry to hear about your father. Aquaracer is a superb sports watch and I look forward to seeing photos once you get it!

Edit: also, never apologize for which watches you love, heck we are all friends here and one of my all time favorite watches is a Tag Heuer Formula 1, you can easily guess which one. Some idiots online might say its crap but since it was released I have always loved it and thats all what matters right 😀
