Biggest giveaway is the terrible movement rotor made out of tin foil. But yeah there are many others.

I bought a Kirium CL111a-0 a couple of years ago from Ebay. Around the same time I got very sick. I very foolishly, quickly checked the watch and stored it, without checking if it was authentic or even working properly.

Fast forward a couple of years, I've finished all my surgeries and treatment. To my surprise, the battery didn't need replacing, but upon further inspection, the hour hand is malfunctioning. This prompted me to inquire about servicing from Tag Heuer, which lead me to check the watches serial number on Tag Heuer's Warranty search page. My watch doesn't yield any results on the Warranty page. Is this is normal for such an old watch? I also snagged it for a suspiciously low price, which adds to my concerns.

I don't think this is a replica and I'm not sure if they've ever been repped. For peace of mind, could more knowledgeable members here provide me with more insight? Is this a fake?

I'll attempt to attach some pictures!

Cheers

Looks real to me, send it to TH for servicing and you'll either get a quote or it's sent back if it's fake.

There is zero reason to believe that watch is fake. But that box, is suspect

So my watch arrived today. I'm thinking it could be genuine.
  • The serial number is valid according to the tag validation site. The displayed warranty code there matches the warranty code on my card, and the warranty itself was activated on 6/10/2023 (pics of warranty cards below). However my warranty card not signed by a Tag AD (since this is a grey market watch) so the warranty is probably not going to be honored
  • I think the link tubes/pins are genuine (pic below)
  • Overall color looks correct
  • the bezel markings are very crisp, even under high magnification, and are the correct color
  • The bi-color luminescence is correct
  • movement is a Ronda caliber 6003 D commonly used by Tag
  • the rubber gasket sealing the case back is really beefy, like what I see on my other dive watches
  • packaging really looks genuine and includes a rather thick "instructions and guarantee card quartz watches" booklet that is repeated in 11 different languages

Things that bother me:
  • The bezel pip isn't perfectly centered in the triangle
  • The case back font looks different from the Tag Heuer site for this watch. However, I've seen used examples with my font and the original font on the case back.
  • The serial number and model number are on different sides of the case back. Again, I've seen them both ways.

Don't know a thing about hang tags so I've posted them here.

sorry, but that's an obvious fake. And those link pins are THE biggest tell with these watches. No tag heuer in the history of tag heuer, has ever used pins like that for their removable links. No tag heuer ever has wrapped their bracelets in thick plastic wrap either. You know, if these scammers stopped doing that, half the fake being caught, would probably not be caught anymore.

And if the warranty is activated, that means it was bought from an AD and the warranty is valid for that serial number. Which would also have the card filled out.
Only problem is, the watch YOU bought isn't the watch that was bought from the dealer, and the serial number on your watch, is the same number that the factory is using for a hundred other watches they produced. As far as I can tell, a middle man is buying brand new watches, legally and from dealers, and then using those numbers for the fakes. And probably using the watch itself to make the fake in the first place. And then probably selling the real watch and getting their money back anyways.

Whoever ripped you off, needs to give you your money back.

Yeah, I looked up the genuine tubes and they have 2 notches. For some reason, when I did the research I thought the genuine tubes had one. Thanks. The watch has a 7 day money back return policy so I can send it back. It is quite the well made reproduction though.

I'm not even sure how much info is out there, so I can see why you would have found and then thought they have one notch. After all, who the hell cares about notches on tubes? Tube is a tube. Until you start getting deeper into this, and start caring about it. Like you have. I don't think anyone was even posting about it, until I started posting about it. I had to convince people. I STILL need to convince people all the time, becaues they just don't believe me. Because pin and tubes are a silly thing to care about...

The printing on the hangtag is also a BIG tell on fakes.
Hope it works out for you.
BTW the paper warranty card is no longer used on TH watches.

hey guys! probably a 900£ mistake, but hoping since it's eBay and paid with PayPal, it won't be too hard to get my money back.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/38620142...LzuzHG2ROG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I'll get it on Thursday.

good thing? serial number checks out and gives out correct warranty code.

guy says he bought it on eBay from "reputable" watch shop 3 month ago for 1200£ that has since dissapeared. he provided me with his purchase invoice screenshot.

the only thing that has since given me pause is minute arm looks just a touch short?

Thursday I can post more pictures, but the thought is to pop in tag shop, see what they say and if they don't say it's obvious fake, send it in for a full service.

my thought is if pre service inspection will find out it's fake, it won't take too long to get a report and I can file eBay/PayPal reports?

Your first sign, should be that this watch you bought with a serial number that checks out, is being sold again, despite it already being sold to you.

A tag shop also either can't tell you if it's an obvious fake, (which these aren't obvious fakes anymore), or aren't allowed to.

in either case tho, zoom in on the bezel pip. Just, eww.

Now, compare it to a real one.

TLDR.
Serial number means nothing.
Your guy apparently bought more than one of the same watch.
Minute arm seems fine.
Tag shop can't tell you anything
Pre service inspection WILL tell you, but there is no point and CAN take too long.
File ebay return NOW stating it's not as described. Don't wait. If you want to send it to tag, you can still do so after.

I somehow think he bought just this one. the shop he bought it from on the other hand....

serial number means nothing? I've seen plenty where serial number doesn't check out...

tag inspection might take too long? eBay has 30? 90? days? PayPal has 6 month. how long can it take for pre service inspection?

what do you mean send it to tag after?? if I open eBay case, guy might very well say nope, not a fake. send it back, I'll give money back and I'll relist it... don't I need a paperwork to prove that it's fake?

aside from it's eBay, aquaracer and shop has dissapeared... is there anything else that says fake?

i agree with @jamesbizs . But to be sure if you wish, check the pin and barrel from the links. Post a pic.
All signs of a fake is present so to speak.

Great, now ebay are promoting the fake Aquaracer to me!
Ebay, or Crime Bay as most people call it, is one of the world's biggest market places for criminals. How anyone could even consider buying luxury goods on this site is beyond me. Sometimes I feel people get what they deserve, with thousands and thousands of people all over the world wearing fake watches thinking they got a "good deal".
