·There aren’t enough Camaro threads and they’re cool as hell so here’s a quick overview of my recent incoming.
I bought this from eBay last year. The seller was selling it on behalf of a friend who owned it for 15 years after buying it as part of a job lot. It has spent most of that time in a drawer.
Unfortunately the seller/owner had no idea of the watches history but the the caseback inscription is interesting. I know little of motorsport but I believe Stowe is the name of the inside circuit at Silverstone in the UK, so perhaps this was given to the winner of a race at an event in ‘73?
The watch itself was filthy and scratched up (the absolute best way to find them!) and the running seconds hand was wrong, but I was confident that a beautiful dial was hiding under that knackered crystal and dirt.
Once it arrived it was promptly sent out to Rich A for a thorough service. Obviously the case was deep cleaned, along with the pushers, a new crystal was installed and as a new seconds hand couldn’t be found, Rich did an amazing job of re-profiling and repainting the existing for a better match. A movement service later and it looks wonderful. the case is amongst the sharpest I’ve seen, and the dial is stunning with very little fading or patina. Love it.
