Hi all,

I have some questions to the people who are using this fantastic Watch.

The question is , ¿ Is it worth to buy a second hand Gen2 ? ( Don´t try to convince me about Gen3, I have my thoughts about it ;-) ).

I am planning to buy a 41mm second hand Gen2 but here are my worries.

1. How long will it last ? , it is an investment and at least I want to have it for two or three years. Is Tag going to be still updating this old model, will still the battery be enough for one day 20 hours more or less ?

2. I am a bit puzzled about the second hand market , I only see people selling without warranty , just finished or with only one month left so they have been using the TAG for two years already. Why are they selling with just the warranty ended ?, it is a bit shocking, I dont understand why.

Thanks for your help

You are 100% correct about not wanting anyone convincing you about gen3. Personally I also never ask others to convince me, I do my own research for whatever items I decide to buy.
I can understand you asking questions about gen2 before buying one considering its used, never owned gen2 but since some of what your asking can relate to any smartwatch I'll try to help.

For Q1 - Will probably last max 2-3 years after its initial 2 years from previous owner. People selling know about half its life is over and better (my opinion only) smartwatches are now available. Software updates are available for gen2 but no one knows for how long into the future. Battery life ? well, it depends how often the last owner used it for on a daily basis, they could have used the GPS for fitness every day for 2 years for long workouts including receiving many notifications etc etc.

For Q2 - To me its not a shock they are selling gen2, Its more of a shock why people will want to buy a 2 year old smartwatch and expect it to last years and looking at it as an investment. If the price is reasonable and you think it will last another 2 years, ONLY you can say its value for YOUR money. As for it being an Investment think of it as a diminishing investment that will be worthless in 2-3 years time except for the strap/bracelet. If you get it at a cheap price its probably worth it for you.

Many owners here from what I have read LOVE the gen2. I always wanted the gen1, gen2 but just like you I had my thoughts about them 😀

Good luck with whatever you decide to do 😀

I don't know anything about 3D Printer.. But i did come across this.

These adaptors would be very handy if they fit the gen3. I'm in the process of making a gen3 stand and a part like this would have made my job easier. Today I made a bit to fit the gen3 charging puck but need to make adjustments for it to look good.

Being a new watch I decided to make my own stand and in the last few days I see they are becoming available for sale 😀

Yes I realized that. At least complete charging stands for the gen3 are becoming available. I’m halfway into making mine and it’s starting to come together, just a few more tweaks

Thank you very much oroloi for your answers, ;-)

About Q2, when I ment investment, I didn´t expect the TAG Connected to last for years, but if I spend 700€ in something I would like to know if I will use if it for 1 two or three years. That´s why I was asking so dividing I know how much I spend by year and see if it is worth it. It is obvious that If I buy a mechanical it will never last 😀 but it is not

First of all I recommend you the Modular 45 and not the 41, for its more balanced design, bigger battery (410 mAh vs 345 mAh), and more available accessories: mainly more straps and in male colours, and more mechanical modules: because there is only Calibre 5 for the 41, and you have in addition the Calibre 16 and even the Heuer 02 Tourbillon mechanical modules available for the 45.

I think the best option at this moment is buying Gen2 Modular in one of the official outlet TAG Heuer stores (like the one from Bicester group where @Aquagraph is well known 👍). So you are buying it brand new and with the full 2 years of official warranty, and with 30% discount. Gen2 Modular are keeping very high value in the 2nd hand market, so for a little more, you can buy it brand new in the TH outlet store.

About updates, it’s mainly Google updating Wear OS, and my Gen2 M45 is working better and better with these updates. Now battery life is more than enough, and two years ago was quite short in comparison. Even Gen1, five years later, is receiving these same Wear OS updates as Gen2 and Gen3, and it’s still perfectly working (just ask @connected1976 😉)
Only the security patch is being old, but it seems it only affects the NFC payment with Google Pay... so if you use Apple Pay with your iPhone, then it doesn’t matter

And about how long it will last... just buy a mechanical module, and your investment will be “Connected to Eternity” 😉

Looks like Albert-AMG has the best advice for you. Had no idea you can still buy them new and at 30% discount. If Modular is your thing you can’t go wrong. With full warranty too 😉

Tomorrow I’ll show you my idea how to transform my Artifex Design stand into the “official” TAG Heuer Connected 2020 stand. Stay tuned.
By the way @Albert-AMG. If you like the idea I’ll send it to you for free, since I ordered 2 pcs. and it’s compatible with the Gen 2 stand. 😉

Wow, looks fantastic. Carbon fiber and all black looks really good. Metal cast ?

My stand is nearly finished but trying to get it to not show the charging cable as much. The USB-C entry into the charging puck is at the top of the puck, I would have preferred it pointing downwards. A right angle adaptor is helping with my design.

Here it is. The "official" TAG Heuer stand for the Connected 2020.

The idea was just a sticker on the base, but I think it's much nicer than before.

@Albert-AMG. If you like it, send me a PM with your address and I'll send you a sticker.
