I initially was worried it was made in China but got over it. It’s not a copy of a Tag Heuer made by a little factory in China with low grade steel that looks stainless, and doesn’t use a plastic screens that looks like sapphire etc etc. designed by Tag is good enough for me.

To me it’s a smartwatch with limited life, so made in China is a non issue.
With my Swiss Watches........glad they are Swiss Made 😀

I guess that's a fair statement. I had same ideas historically, but nowadays I try to talk myself into believe that country of manufacturing is second and the quality of the final product is number one.

Heritage, Craftsmanship and Quality, I guess you can jongle around with the order, as long it contains them all 😀

Hey There

As far a Build Quality you should hold no fears. I can tell you that the Connected is just as well put together as my F1. Ok it's not Swiss Made like the F1 but I don't see anything wrong or Off with the Connected.

I think the made in China issue wasn't about the quality, but the value. Sure great things can be made in China, but for the super high price of this watch, it's unacceptable. It doesn't bother me anymore, but if I was TAG, I'd be embarrassed. Esp after all the marketing they did about swiss made last gen.

I bet same goes for most of the companies, who produce anything related to tech, unfortunately

Out of curiosity, how do you guys finds the fit on the G3?

It looks to me that since the lugs don´t fit as close as on the G2, it might deliver a better fit factor when it wraps around the wrist.

Found the 41 feels much larger (similar to a deep sea) due to the strap integration

Thanks in advance.

Will I loose my favourite dial GMT with white dial and orange accents I've done in TH studio on the 3 gen?

Did anyone know?

What really annoyed me initially was the marketing photos on the TAG Heuer site regarding the word CHINA on the case back of Gen3, all other inscriptions were clearly visible and readable, the word CHINA was fuzzy and kind of hard to read especially on the photos of the stainless steel bracelet with ceramic model. And yes, the price IS too high for it as its made in china. I would have been happy to pay a little more if it was Swiss Made.
Short story, decided not to buy it. Then after trying it on and looking at the screen and overall quality I was very impressed and bought it. Very happy 😀

Don't worry, it's only @Albert-AMG that is jealous. 😜
Ya me has vuelto a provocar! 😁 😁 😉

Jealous that Gen3 is Chinese instead of Swiss, and that the base model is steel instead of titanium... and that it is still more expensive than before? 😵‍💫

Jealous that Gen3 looks like a 2018 Huawei Watch GT or a Lemfo L7 (pictures here: https://forums.calibre11.com/threads/how-is-your-th-modular-collection.95472/page-4#post-1480366), instead of sharing the unmistakable design of the Carrera 45mm like Gen1 and Gen2?

Jealous of how the straps fit the case, and their level of finish?

Seeing this joint does not give a feeling of quality. You don't see that in Gen2!

Jealous that Gen3 has lost the differentiating Modular system that allows you to have a “Connected to Eternity” collection by being able to purchase mechanical modules at a great price?

And therefore jealous that the day Gen3 becomes obsolete by software/hardware, you lose all the investment... which is also not a small one?

Jealous of a very short Gen3 range of straps, accessories, high-end materials and customization options compared to what the Gen2 Modular 45 had since its launch?

... with 56 available models since Gen2 launch vs just 4 for Gen3?

Jealous of Gen3 AOD mode with Automatic brightness too dark? Maybe to be able to advertise higher battery life, because otherwise it would be less than Gen2? 😗 Figures that I am reading here for Gen3 are not better than for my Gen2 M45, and more considering that I always use WatchMaker faces AOD, and being a much brighter AOD. This is my Gen2 M45 with a WM face, AOD ON and everything else ON excepting NFC... so 25 hours with high consumption settings:

Or maybe it's the fault of the new Gen3 ambient light sensor, which is Chinese instead of Austrian/Swiss in Gen2? 😉

Jealous of Gen3 getting stuck with some WatchMaker face that Gen2 and Gen1 run perfectly? It will be seen if with an update of the app that is fixed, but at the moment it is stuck! 😝

Well, I have already commented several times that -despite all the above- I like Gen3, so congratulations to all Gen3 owners anyway 👍, but I just like the Gen2 M45 much more 🥰. If I had to start my TH Connected collection from scratch now, I would definitely opt for the Gen2 M45, which can also now be purchased at the official TH outlet stores with a 30% discount. To give an example: the Gen2 M45 Golf Edition (released in 2019) in black titanium (case, lugs, and buckle), exclusive white leather strap, with the three golf balls with TH logo and the entire set of the Special Edition can be purchased now for around 1350€ vs the 2250€ that costs the black titanium Gen3 with black rubber strap!

But it is that even without that discount, I would still choose Gen2 M45 because I like it much more than Gen3, so not jealous at all! 😉

The only additional Gen3 feature is the heart rate sensor, and I can add that to Gen2 anytime with a bluetooth belt, so for me it's not relevant

And on the CHINA vs SWISS MADE issue, it is clear that when we are talking about a Swiss brand of watches it has a very different meaning and added value than when we talk about mobile phones or MP3 players. Can anyone imagine buying a Monaco or a Rolex Daytona made in China? What tradition/heritage does TH have of manufacturing in China since 1860?

In addition, I rely much more on the quality control that TH could perform by manufacturing Gen2 (picture below) at its headquarters in La Chaux-de-Fonds than by manufacturing Gen3 in China...

Because a company may outsource quality manufacturing in China, but they can also give you lower quality than promised (I say this because of the professional testimony of a very close friend). So quality control is key there

Hi Albert

I'm guessing you will get a Gen 4.
Hahaha...No but seriously very good points. Well thought out post.

I went for the Gen 3 because it's my first Connected. I couldn't get a Gen 2 even if I wanted to. None available in Australia. And it just doesn't make sense to purchase the older model once a new model is available.
Like you wouldn't buy a 2018 AMG if the 2020 model was available.
But I understand you already are invested in the Gen2.

Look forward to your future Posts.. I do love your opinions and your Watch Faces.

Have a great day my Friend.

Anthony

It depends on what Gen4 is like 😉

No question then! And Gen3 is obviously a great and very nice smartwatch! 👍

This is normally the case, but there are exceptions. It all depends on the manufacturer's criteria, and on whether the brand has made a change of focus or priorities. For example, in these two cases, I would always choose the older model... although at least, in these two cases, the price of the new model was lower than that of its predecessor:

Older model: 300 SL “Gullwing”

New model: 230 SL “Pagoda”

Older model: SLS AMG

New model: AMG GT

But I understand you already are invested in the Gen2.
Yes, of course having already made a large investment in accessories for Gen2 M45 (and TH having not made Gen3 compatible with those accessories), is a very important reason to continue with Gen2 and not buy Gen3. But as I said before, if I started my collection from scratch now, my choice would still be Gen2 M45 (even if it were the same price as Gen3), since I like Gen2 M45 much more (for all the reasons mentioned in my previous post), and I can't find a relevant technological advantage in Gen3 over Gen2.

Look forward to your future Posts.. I do love your opinions and your Watch Faces.

Have a great day my Friend.

Anthony
Thank you, and have a great day too, my friend! 😀

Good points. The 45 is a more unique and better thought out, more TAG like. If the gen 3 was basically a 45 with the new polished ceramic bezel, and HR, it would be the PERFECT watch. But alas, we have the TAG Lemfo compilation. The gen 3 is an easier daily wear, not that I mind chunkyness. My summit 2 plus should be here in a few weeks and we'll see how that looks.

TAG told me that the ability to delete activities is coming next update, but Google fit is further on the horizon, if ever.

Thanks for this info Tag Guy, looking forward to the update 😀

As for the above few somewhat angry gen2 gen3 posts It will take me 15 minutes to read them but looking out my window with the sun rising and casting glare on my computer screen I think I'd rather go for a run instead 😀

Yes, my gen3 will be obsolete in a few years and I knew that when I bought it. Modular is the (ONE) reason I didn't buy gen2 I wasn't interested in a lego watch and I knew they wouldn't continue with it (just my opinion). Tag has taken the right direction with gen3 except its made in china 😀 happy to give it away when gen4 becomes available. And I'm sure Gen4 Connected will be better than my Gen3.

I hope everyone here is happy with whatever they they have purchased, if anyone has a problem with an obsolete watch that you are obsessed with, take it out with tag and don't be upset with others enjoying the gen3........even though its made in CHINA 😀

@oroloi , don't you think that before commenting on those “angry” (according to you) gen2 gen3 posts, you should first read them? 😉

You are 100% correct, I should have mentioned I skimmed through the post after reading the first few lines........I knew where it was heading and had better things to do 😀

I have respect for you Albert-AMG as you are a regular and long time user here, I'm only new here. I already learned many things from you and look forward to more of your posts 😀

I understand what @oroloi is saying.. I'm a bit the same as in I also looked at the M45 about 18 Months ago.
What did put me off slightly was the cost of the Accessories and how much it would cost to personalise the Watch.
When you take into account the cost of Lugs and Straps it's quite expensive.

With the Gen 3 personalisation the only Expense is for a Strap and they can be had for $100.

This is just my opinion. I'm happy to spend on the Gen 3 and after a couple of years upgrade to a Gen 4.

Does anyone here have a Charging stand for the GEN3 Connected watch, one that is actually designed for the GEN3 ?

So far I can't find anything for this relatively new watch. Looking for something that is made well hopefully with nice timber etc 😀

I did notice some photos of Gen2 stands in this thread and hope the same people update and include charging stands for the gen3.

I got a message from Artifex Design today saying their Gen 3 stand will be live on their website Saturday US time. Keep an eye out.

In the meantime I'm using a Phone Stand.

Thanks Anthony, good idea with your temp stand 😀 I will look into the Artifex Design tomorrow, if it looks good I will consider it.
With isolation these days I might consider making my own, sick of searching and finding nothing.

IMHO artifex is one of the ugliest designs I've ever seen. There were so many gorgeous 3d models for the 45. Example: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2350473

I am waiting for someone to make one for the 2020 connected. Some even made an adapter for the 45 and apple watch stands, which opened a massive door for options.
The Artifex is so ugly IMHO.
