Thanks for the reply. That sucks that they charge your card in full and the watch doesn't ship for about a month. If I do buy the watch, I may wait until shipment starts. If it's not a "Limited Edition", I don't think they'll run out. I'm not sure what "Special Edition" means in Tag Heuer speak. I suppose they'll build as many as they want, but only offer the watch for a given time period.

It's also interesting that they only offer the watch on-line in the US, which means no haggling on the price. (I live in the US.) I wonder if outside the US the watch will be sold at dealers and boutique stores?
I interpret 'Special Edition' the same as you.

David indicated on the other thread that:
"This is a US-only edition given the restrictions on the licensing of the Gulf logo and brand."

Still, it's quite strange that it's the opposite situation of the Gulf Grey, where it seemed the US was left out, while other countries got it. I guess Tag Heuer is making up for that by allowing US folks the "exclusive" opportunity to buy this one. But I find it hard to believe that Tag Heuer can't sell it in other countries, since the previous Gulf logo-ed Monaco versions and the Gulf logo-ed F1 watch were pretty much sold everywhere except the US.

Yes, very strange, but better late than never! 😉

Otto, you are a very silly man. And that TAG looks better than the new one! See how the second hand is orange...
I agree the tag heuer one is looking better.

Not a big fan of unicorn crown.

Wish there was more info and live pics of this watch. Anxiously waiting for Sept, when Hubert gets one.
I want one, but I might just see if I can order that strap. It would give my Gulf Grey 95% of the look of the CAW211R.

Lovely re-issue.
Is this a US market only watch?
Or will it available internationally?
Anyone knows?

Hodinkee short article about this beauty

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/tag-heuer-monaco-gulf-special-edition-50th-anniversary

Is it just me or do the Gulf logo look a bit off on the macro shot they included? When zooming in it looks like the blue above F runs out over the black outer lining... could it be that the photos are of a prototype with minor flaws?

^I noticed that as well when reading the Hodinkee article. I hope it's an issue with the photo color quality and the the Gulf logo is really white, not light blue. But the other white lettering is white, so it makes me wonder...

I hope that is just a prototype. The official shots show the Gulf logo in "white/cream".

The outline around the Gulf logo is blue in both the Tag Heuer photo and the Hodinkee photo. But the background behind the word "Gulf" definitely should be white, as that's how the logo is supposed to look. If it ends up being blue, that's a negative for me. It's all about the details.

I honestly don't think the logo background for the text will be blue. The picture from Baselworld also shows this being white/cream.

I really hope you're right. But I'm beginning to wonder if Tag Heuer had to alter the logo slightly to sell the watch in the US, for whatever the same reason they didn't/couldn't sell the Gulf Grey (which has the exact Gulf logo) in the US.

I would think the watch at Baselworld would be the first prototype pre-dating the one Hodinkee has, unless theirs is an alternate proto. Perhaps I'm being paranoid and overthinking it. We'll know soon enough when more pics start to surface.

The image that Hodinkee have is a digital image- as are the images that I have used in this post, which show a white background:

https://www.calibre11.com/tag-heuer-monaco-gulf-editions/

Yes, it could have changed from the photo above, but I'd hope/ expect a white background

Nice update to your article.

My first thought when seeing the blue Gulf logo background was that the Hodinkee image was a stock digital image but somehow the color got messed up. Really can't wait now to see a live picture of the production watch.

Any idea how long Tag Heuer will offer this Special Edition for sale?

That ^ was taken from the official video.

Nice spot Hubert.

No, not sure how long it will be on sale for. I expect that we will see a lot more short-run watches in the future, especially those aimed at online sales.
