Will your Aquaracer break? A shocking scientific study on the calibre 5

Sorry to dredge up this thread, but thought it would sit here nicely.

Would having a watch winder resolve the potential issues with the calibre 5 and 7 movement or is this just wishful thinking?

Still considering the Aquaracer and those I like are all 5 or 7鈥檚.

Hi,

It's my personal solution for my Aquaracer Pro 300 馃榾
Sounds promising then. So I just need to either wear it or put it on the winder regularly and minimise the use of the crown. Won鈥檛 be difficult as this will only be my second watch and will no doubt alternate daily anyway.

Tempted by the Orange or Blue & White GMT currently. Both lovely.

Same here. Both my Aquaracers (both Cal 5 300s) are on a winder.
I've found decent 2-watch winders for about $60 or 70 US on eBay so no big deal

Weirdly my calibre 5 goes flat on both my winders, even turned up to max, they wind my bb58 and Breitling just fine.

Probably time for a service. Could be as simple as a lubrication issue

Same issue on my previous Aquaracer (ref WAY211A and ref WAY201A).

But with my Pro 300 (ref WBP201A), it's OK with the same watch winder (with exactly the same settings).

Did they ever work on the winder?

I鈥檝e been waiting for this movement to fail completely, so I can fit a cosc calibre 5 or a quartz replacement鈥ut it seems remarkably resilient to my abuse!

My ex WAY211A and ref WAY201A stopped working (in the power reserve, i.e. about 38 hours) on this same winder.

So the winder had absolutely no effect.

No problem with the Aquaracer Pro 300 (ref WBP201A).

And no problem with all Rolex, Omega, Tudor and Breitling with these same winders.

That is exactly the same as my WAY211A.

@Jim Dollares based on an appropriately insignificant sample of 3 watches, we can see the shitty Calibre 5 in the 300m Pro is less shitty than the shitty Calibre 5 in the WAY series.

Noted, I am currently writing a report on this. It will be published in the December issue of Watch Science Monthly

Much more than 3 samples because I have owned :

- WAY211A : 2 samples

- WAY201A : 3 samples

FWIW, my Cal 5 Drive Timer from the same era as the WAY never had problems once I put it on the winder.

(Which I did cause I couldn't hand-wind it, the rotor issue was so bad)

Brilliant. 馃榾

I am inching ever closer tbh. Narrowed it down to the orange, obviously on bracelet, or the blue and white GMT on rubber strap. Have negotiated what I believe to be a fantastic deal on each, but just need to make decision on picking either or stepping back. lol

Try them on, with a typical outfit you鈥檙e likely to wear it with and see which calls to you.

Started a new thread for that conversation, as starting to move away from this topic now.

I think I'll give my WAY2112 a go on the winder now I've read your post 馃憤

One month into phase 2, field testing in wild extreme conditions. Me and the team of nerdy whorological mega scientists will expose the calibro cinco to Swedish winter, mountain hiking, extremely hard and dangerous tap water, pool swimming, desk working, long hot moist showering among other real life situations putting the calibre to the test, pushing boundaries and embracing the extreme.
