Since I took my 844/5 in for a service and it's been delayed for weeks (waiting for a crown), I've been obsessing (slightly) about finding another one as a 'spare'. (I like watches, but as 'tools' - I'm not really a collector).

Whilst browsing ebay i've come across the 'Coral', all black 1000 (980.026 etc) and it's grabbed my attention quite significantly.

Finding an affordable one is now my goal.
Yes I will wear it regularly, yes it may get bashed/wetted/heated, but frankly - that's what it was designed for. 😀

You may be pleasantly surprised at the prices of these models still-particularity in comparison to both their 'jumbo' partners and the auto models. You will, however, also find most have worn away much of the PVD coating, especially on the bracelets.

These divers are fantastic though-the range is significant and they are just so much fun. I always think so more of this 'full size' range than the jumbos....which take themselves a little more seriously.

Exactly. I don't expect Heuer was interested in patina on new watches in those days. The lume on my 1000 is more of very light green. Maybe it's the photo.
That is actually very interesting given the recent article on Hodinkee about fauxtina and when it was first made. Jack claimed JLC in 2008 I think but a commentor pointed out Panerai doing it in 2002 or something like that. Maybe Heuer was first? 😎

Anyone has the physical catalogue and can confirm if it was actually fauxtina when they were sold?

They seem to be around £600 to £1000 on ebay, which is a little out of my current budget unfortunately, i keep getting tempted though by the occasional auction that starts low!

Indeed, I always assumed the tritium patinated to yellow but the brochure seems to indicate they were yellow from the factory.
Mine has (as far as I can remember) always been a yellow colour in daylight, but a greeny colour in darkness.

Certainly it depends on condition but you should be able to find a reasonable one for the bottom end of that budget, or a less than reasonable one for less overall!

The 1000 diver lume is invariably green to begin with but does fade/change over time. Any perceived difference in the catalogue colour would be down to the photos and/or illustrations themselves....there has always been an amount of artistic licence and variations in them!

(that said, most (but not all) full-lume dial models were yellow and not green!)

I am not so sure. There's one on a swiss auction platform since a couple of months (!), unworn with box and papers with 35% off (CHF 3200.-). 👎

My point was just that you need to purchase if there is a sale, otherwise you loose money right 🙄 joking of course

Yes, I think I see what you mean. I am not very experienced in selling watches. And sometimes I ask myself, If there is any chance that they somewhat keep their value. If you take the revisions into account, and the selling fees...

This well used WN1111 is on its way. Needs a good cleaning and a bit of a polish and it will be ready to go. It was an impulse buy. Circa 1999.
