Turns out the watch is cased in a 1163v case (information from a collector in the know). I originally asked the guy at Watchfinder about ref and serials engravings. To which he replied:

’At the time of writing the Tag is still available – the 1163 number is the model number, the serial starts 339 –’

What a scammer!

Not a really a scammer but more likely just ignorant of the nuances you were asking about.

My first Seiko!

Actually, no that's not true... I did have a Seiko a few years ago. It had to go back after three months because it went a bit wrong and then I sold it on eBay for about 30% of what I paid for it. Won't be doing that again. This looks okay though, nice textured dial.

Phew! I lucked out! Seems like we went from seeing 2-3 CS3112 's for sale the past couple years....to once in a blue moon status recently.

Impulse buy.........Saw this used Hemel (micro brand) for sale on ebay and the price was too good not to buy it. It uses a Seiko VK64 Mecha-Quartz movement.

Since I took my 844/5 in for a service and it's been delayed for weeks (waiting for a crown), I've been obsessing (slightly) about finding another one as a 'spare'. (I like watches, but as 'tools' - I'm not really a collector).

Whilst browsing ebay i've come across the 'Coral', all black 1000 (980.026 etc) and it's grabbed my attention quite significantly.

Finding an affordable one is now my goal.
Yes I will wear it regularly, yes it may get bashed/wetted/heated, but frankly - that's what it was designed for. 😀

That green one is... novel!

Certainly is - I can't imagine there's many about! It's very " '80's military / A-team". 😁

They made an 'olive' Formula 1 which I quite liked, but the rubber strap had that awful clasp that rips your wrist open, which ruled it out for me.

Is that faux lume in the original catalogue?

You mean fauxtina?
Exactly. I don't expect Heuer was interested in patina on new watches in those days. The lume on my 1000 is more of very light green. Maybe it's the photo.

Indeed, I always assumed the tritium patinated to yellow but the brochure seems to indicate they were yellow from the factory.
