Local AD stocks TH,Omega, and Porsche Design, and they have a sale on, unfortunately wife issued instructions and as of present I haven’t got her worn down, there’s time yet.
Do you have a make & model you're after? Or just wanting to take advantage of the sale?

I just take advantage of sales if there is something that catches my eye, or ask the AD to let me know when he can do a special on something I want.

So, now that I am TAG Heuer-less my eye is being drawn to other pieces in the range. Strangely, the piece I am continually drawn to is this variant of the F1 chronograph - does anybody here own one? How do they wear in real life?

https://www.tagheuer.com/gb/en/time...er-formula-1/43-mm-quartz/CAZ101E.BA0842.html

Admittedly it’s something of a downgrade from the Monaco I used to own, but I am really drawn to the looks - the case, reverse panda dial and red accents remind me of Viceroy Autavias - and the grab n’ go nature of quartz is appealing.

Looks like it’s being discontinued soon too (out of stock)?

I own the Gulf F1, which shares the same case. It wears fine, but 43mm is a little larger than what I normally like. The quality and look is very nice for an entry level TAG.

Don't have the bracelet, so can't comment on that aspect of it. Have heard that the clasp design was supposedly improved with the later version of the bracelet.

Looking at this one:
https://www.tagheuer.com/us/en/time...uer-carrera/39-mm-th20-00/CBS2212.FC6535.html

Does anyone know if the TH20-00 is an improvement over the Heuer 2?

Also, is the "glass box" crystal functional for a chronograph? From the pictures it could look cool, but it might not.
The new movement is a bidirectional H02. Less noisy.

The raised bezel in the glassbox crystal allows better visibility, than previous heritage glassbox models.

The pusher action is also slightly more refined than previous - though this might be more of a case design improvement.

For some, this Autavia is a "Rindt" watch but I was not even born when that guy was famous 60 years ago. I love that you bought it on the brown camel strap because for me this configuration is the Christian Horner watch. Whenever you look down on your wrist you should think of Christian Horner and the mighty power of the red bull 😝

Happy to find out I can call it “Demsey” Autavia instead of “Horner” 😜 😉 😉

Comparing these two....pros vs cons?
Size is probably the biggest factor. Do you prefer 39mm or 44mm?
The other factor is the design style, traditional flat outer bezel of the Sport vs. the avant garde swoopy all under domed glass look of the 39?
Also, there's the strap. But that can be easily changed.
Other than that, the two are fairly comparable. But the Sport is about $750 cheaper.

I agree, I think I like the 39mm size better, however the "avant garde swoopy all under domed glass" gives me pause. I worry how it will look in 5 years...

Any ideas on which movement is better? The 39.. is a newer model and I worry it may not have worked out all the kinks technology wise.

I love the blue color and the tan band.....it matches my Panamera perfectly....

I really, really like these new glassboxes. For me they’re the first sign that TAG Heuer is properly embracing the original design principles of the original “golden era” models, something which I hope continues in future watches. They’re well proportioned, really clean, great visibility…I’m really impressed. To me, these are the watches the CV series of Carreras from the mid 00s should have always been.

I had the opportunity to check out all (relevant) Carrera chrono novelties today in their boutique in Lyon. What can I say? I’m seeing much clearer now between the 39mm, 42mm (and 44mm) sizes.

39mm is just too damn small for me - especially when it’s a round watch with short L2L, like the latest Carreras are (I don’t have problems wearing 37mm or 38mm vintage watches, though - if they have a somehow beefier case shape). I do realize now that this was one of the biggest obstacles that kept me from falling for the 60s Panda (in addition to the hands mismatch)…

For me, the 42 Elegant is the pick of the litter when it comes to almost universal sizing. I feel that TH really did a great job with that case shape. Plus: the latest models with the orange and red accents are a step in the right direction since on the original four colors the dial could appear just a bit too empty & borderline boring. But the two new ones don’t sway me for good since I’m currently a bit bored of black and blue watches and would prefer almost any other color. I’ll remain on the lookout for (ideally) a new multicolored variant, as long as it’s not panda or orca (I really got that covered). I think my wet dream would be a silver dial with blue subdials and orange accents 😉

Finally, the 44mm is probably great for those who specifically search a bigger, bolder & sportier watch. I haven’t tried it on, but it could imagine that it also wears visually smaller than its dimensions suggest.

Two negative notes, though:
- Price increase incoming on the 01-Apr-2023. Prices of the 42mm Elegant will go up to where the two 42mm novelties already are. Monaco Cal.11 will be close to (basically at) 8k EUR.
- TH seems to have a QC problem: the black & orange/red Elegant had a date wheel that was absolutely not centered in the date window. It got better when you made it “click” for a bit, but then the other issue became apparent, i.e., that the date change occurred well, well after midnight.
