So speaking of Zenith, here it is. Just picked up my first vintage watch, an El Primero Chronograph ref A787 (circa '71-'72). While not as famous as the 1969 A386 & A384 duo, it shares the same Cal 3019 PHC movement and the dial has similar design aesthetics. Only 1500 made, but relatively affordable compared to its iconic siblings.

It's quite comfortable to wear and I love how slim it is, only 12mm thick including the domed plexi crystal.

Is it gold coloured or is it just the lighting? Looks like it is in great condition for a 50 year old watch.

Congratulations, a very nice piece.

Very cool! What a way to venture into vintage chronographs. You skipped the Viceroy stage 😉

Well done mate...that is in great condition for its age. I'm thinking of a Zenith myself.

It went for £3200. A good price for sure, since others had sold just short of £3500. Auctions from private individuals are usually the best way to pick up a watch at a fair market price (the price someone is willing to pay) rather than paying the inflated fixed prices of a lot of dealers. It's the way I bought my Telemeter for such a good price, and also my cream dial Grand Seiko.

Yes, I'm surprised it didn't get up to about £3400-3500. Maybe everyone was eating lunch and forgot about the auction.

The other way to get a bargain on eBay is to look for auctions where the seller has mis-spelled the item title or reference number slightly such that it doesn't show up in a regular search. Much harder to find obviously! 😀

Was tempted thinking I could have made a slight profit from a resale in the right place, but decided discretion was the best course.

Did think about it, but loft extension starting next month, no big purchases for me for the time being. I'd also probably prefer new with discount ideally. But that price is very very good

Thanks guys!!!

I was interested to see a Viceroy in person, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I might. I had long been thinking about the new Zenith Chronomaster Original or A384 Revival, then I stumbled upon this one and was immediately attracted to it. Did some research on it and thought why not get a true vintage original and for a lot less money than a new one as well.

The condition is really nice. A few scratches here and there, but nothing deep. The crystal looks unblemished so I'm guessing it might have been replaced at some point.
