I enjoyed this interview very much.
Those interviews remind me of Matt Hraneks very recommendable book 'A man and his watch', where several people of the watch universe talk about their relationship to their watches.

Thank you Remo, I really appreciate your kind words!

That's good!😀

Part of me wishes I could have personalised the questions more, or had more variety in them - but the idea was that people would pick different questions to answer... instead everyone answered every question, but on the plus side that means we get to hear different viewpoints on the same questions - which is interesting in itself.

This week's posts... I was going to try and rush a 'First Impressions' post on the new Monaco using the leaked render as a reference, but decided against it. Just as well, since it looks a lot different. Highlight of the week has to be Otto's interview...

Enjoyed reading the 'on a budget' feature. Spot on realizing that it does not have to be expensive to be something you love and enjoy!

Thanks guys, I am by no means rich, some of the other member's collections blow my mind, but I did marry early and no longer have a mortgage! 😀

But seriously, a lot of people can't or don't want to spend silly money on watches, and there's no reason they shouldn't be able to enjoy this hobby too. We all have our level, better to stay in your price bracket and enjoy your watches rather than get yourself in debt. The other way of looking at this is you could say, I could sell all my pieces and buy one Royal Oak, or three high end Carreras... but a lot of the fun for me is switching watches every day and not least chasing down and owning a wide variety of watches from TAG Heuer's history. This way is possibly more expensive more repair bills, more batteries etc... but I wouldn't change it now.

Hear hear. I consider myself well off, but I'm probably not in comparison to many members of the luxury watch community. Although I could afford it, no way would I consider chunking £5k on a new watch as it represents a massive % of my accessible savings. There is plenty of value to be had, though, in the used market on toady's lesser regarded pieces. The important thing is to do what you want, and not treat this as a form of online competition. For me, I'm getting huge enjoyment from my current watches which all cost me less then £3k - in my opinion, the Tudor BB58 at £2,600 is the bargain of the century and makes watches like the Monaco at £5k look hideously overpriced. It's a shame, though, as I have a lot of love for Tag Heuer, their designs, racing history and so on. Still have my Carrera reissue, though. 😀

Yeah, I could buy a Monaco if I really wanted to, but I just think £5000 is too much for me and like you it represents too big a hit to my savings for it to be 'comfortable'... I don't think there's any magic formula when you get 'enough' to feel comfortable, it depends on how old you are, how secure your job is, how easy you 'make' money. I mean you could have £10k in savings, but you'll feel differently about it if you earn £20k a year or if you earn £50k a year. It was hard for me to commit to my Carrera at £3200, that was a LOT of money to me, and it still would be if I wanted to spend it again. On the other hand my collection has cost me over £15,000 so far... it just doesn't seem so bad when you buy a 'cheap' watch every month or two.😁

I was on target to go for one of these Monaco special editions, then I decided to retire in January so my pocket money took a hit big time, maybe for the best because one of the five might not have satisfied me. Really I should be happy with my wee collection but I must be part magpie, OOOOOH shiny things, I want.😉😉😉😉😉

That is the problem. And that is why I have lots of sub £1000 watches..

A good read. Keep them coming.
Will we get an interview with the legendary @Calibre11? Would be nice to know more about the man behind the site, how he got into watches, what made him start the site etc 😀
