TAG Heuer or together with collaborations has pretty much exhausted their re-editions. The only two missing are the 39mm glassbox 3-register pandas and reverse pandas. I’m sure they’ve been keeping these cards for a certain future release. It would be nice though if C11 can be the one to have the collaboration on this. The Dato is nice but would have preferred the 2-register 12 o’clock date but they already did that somewhat with the 160th release (pic by sir @Hubert ) but in a modern take. Just by looking at the list in “Heuer Superstars / Holy Grails” you’ll know which re-editions are possibly coming or not. Still, other possible editions are the Seafarer, Mareograph, Yachting or GMT Autavias. Even the cushion case Carrera was already done but only with the ultra limited number. TAG Heuer will soon run out of bunnies to pull out from that magic “Heuer” hat.
Get the feeling we are being milked? Come on Tag Heuer - just put a definitive 2 or 3 register 39mm panda Carrera into the general line-up (non-limited) and keep it there instead of trying to reinvent it every few months!

Just by way of comparison to the 15 pages of posts about this watch here:

Omega Forums - can't find a single thread or post about it
Rolex Forums - a two-page thread
Watchuseek - a 5 page thread

So basically there a few people discussing it elsewhere (and everyone who matters is here!), but not a huge number online that I can see that have actually bought it. Whilst I'm sure some will have gone to genuine collectors and watch enthusiasts on Hodinkee's mailing list, this watch hasn't made a massive splash on the forums in the same way a new colourway on a Tudor Black Bay would, and I suspect a lot have been snapped up by speculators.
Agree. Furthermore, we are a small bunch who just love to jibber jabber amongst ourselves, hence the 15 pages. But it's not really representative of the real world.

Unfortunately for me, I love to jibber jabber to myself whilst driving. It's a sure sign of insanity.

You are missing the Camaro, another favorite of mine.

Like I said many times before, if TAG was smart, they would separate their line-up; one under the Heuer brand for all their long standing names and the other under TAG Heuer for all the names that were created when TAG took over. I can tell you this much, the Heuer name is still extremely popular....

This is all really disappointing. I woke up 5:10am Pacific this morning to buy this watch. The Hodinkee teaser ads said it would be released at 8am Eastern. So I was 10 minutes late and the watch was sold out. How could this happen? Are they all TAG Heuer fans, or are they just scalpers? I went back to sleep and just now came to read this thread. Apparently some of you were able to "pre-order" it. I don't see how that would have happened if the watch went on sale at 8am Eastern. Anyways, I'm getting back to work.

It was still available on the US TAG Heuer website about an hour ago. Sold out now. Sorry bro.

But apparently not popular enough to warrant non-limited productions. Like I said, vocal minority (who usually don't actually buy new watches and moan that everything should be smaller, thinner, somehow different, etc).

Decent enough splash on IG as well.

FWIW, not a ton of discussion about new watches at all on OF right now. Pretty quiet the past week

Go on the Tag Heuer website and add yourself to the waiting list. A few orders may not have gone through and it's possible stock might get released.

Only a few "special customers" in the know were able to pre-order it from their trusted boutique.

Can't help but think you're talking about me here!

TAG make so many different models and variations anyway, that the sales figures for any individual piece probably don't look that impressive. I still think they'd sell enough of a vintage-inspired piece to make it worthwhile if they had a small number as part of a permanent line-up.

https://hypebeast.com/2021/2/hodinkee-collaboration-tag-heuer-brings-900000-usd-two-minutes

HODINKEE’s latest co-branded watch collaboration saw nearly a million dollars flood in as the watch website sold their half of the entire bath allocation in a matter of minutes.

Half of the 250-piece run of TAG Heuer Carrera Dato Limited Edition For HODINKEE was offered through the HODINKEE Shop this morning with commentators reporting that all of the $7,250 USD watches sold out in anywhere between two and 10 minutes, which would represent a total of $906,250 USD in sales and potentially one watch sold every second.

The remainder of the watches were offered through TAG Heuer’s network of dealers in the US and Japan.

The watch in question is a reworked 39mm version of Jack Heuer’s 1960s Dato 45, a single register chronograph with date and is the latest HODINKEE collaboration to become an instant sell-out.

The modern version featured a vintage Heuer logo, a 30-minute chronograph counter instead of the original 45-minute register, the unusual nine o’clock positioning of the date window and a heavily reworked version of the modern Calibre Heuer 02 chronograph movement.

At the time of publishing, two examples were listed on eBay, one with a starting bid of $10,000 USD.

Developments at the New York-based watch-blog-turned-$100m-valued-retailer have been flying in thick and fast in recent months. The company attracted $40m in a Series B funding round late last including investment from LVMH Luxury Ventures, Google Ventures and A-List names such as Tom Brady and John Mayer. HODINKEE then announced the appointment of former Mr. Porter CEO Toby Bateman to run the business with founder Ben Clymer stepping back from day-to-day operational responsibility after 13 years.

Most recently the company announced it had acquired online pre-owned retailer, Crown and Calibre, for an undisclosed sum.

Apparently they’re still available in Japan. Shops will open there in 4 or 5 hours. Maybe someone on the forum there can help you out.

In 2023 when you finally get your panda, will you sell the Ice King? Will you retire from watch hunting and live happily ever after?

Smart business practices from H's perspective but it is all pretty predictable how this played out. Should have made way more than 250!

I guess if they did, not as many people would have bought one.

Heh, heh, maybe, who knows what I'll have in the collection in 12 months time. If it was a silver dial with black subdials, that would be stunning and I would probably sell the 160th. If it was a black dial with white subdials, then I might keep both.

Clearly their business model relies on creating exclusivity by having things sell out instantly.
