You have to admire Hodinkee, they've created a situation where people feel compelled to spend thousands of pounds on a watch they haven't seen (or might not have seen) simply because they know it will sell out in minutes and to delay is to risk having to pay a flipper's ransom. You can hardly blame them for exploiting their clout, but wouldn't it be interesting to see what would happen if they released an ugly watch that people decided they didn't want, it would only take one misstep for the spell to be broken - or would it?
The other side to this is that there are people like me, who really like what they've produced, but see the price as unreasonable or unattainable, and hence are destined never to own and appreciate. That's what limited production does for prices, though. The same strategy works for Rolex in the same way.

They aren't doing anything original though, let's be honest.

I鈥檝e been thinking about this retro wave: if people keep this way, what would they create in 20 or 30 years? A RE-RETRO fashion?

We'll still be recycling these probably... or maybe we'll finally get that 44mm SEL

I know this isn't aimed at me, but speaking from an aesthetic viewpoint, this doesn't have the Skipper's 'va va voom'.

I do like the matte black dial colour and the plain white printing on it, hope we get a regular Carrera with those two things
