As long as there are enough flippers then the scam is perpetuated regardless...

There were enough customers to sell out Hodinkee's hilariously overpriced travel clock so I'm guessing this will be just fine.

Yeah but flippers will only keep buying if they can sell it at a premium so the want from the market must be high regardless of flippers. At the end of the day it鈥檚 only 250 pieces of a watch based on a classic so not hard to imagine it will sell out fast.

True, but I think if Hodinkee had a fail they would go all out on the next one for a guaranteed win and the Hodinkee myth would be restored

Will definitely sell out quick.
But I would love to know after the release how many are actually happy with their purchase and how many remain disappointed?

Unknowable, because the genius is that to keep the market price up you must proclaim happiness!

Can Hodinkee have a fail though? Is it even possible? I think that the hype around their brand is so extreme that they can release any garbage in limited quantity and it will sell out fast. Like someone said, the freakin 'travel clocks' sold out and just helped create even more buzz around Hodinkee

I suspect that if say they only sold 220, they would remove the others from sale and say it sold out, then sell the others 'privately' themselves.

They dropped the ball with that travel clock, huge fallout they haven鈥檛 yet recovered from. I don鈥檛 think it will matter with this release though.

That's what I would do.
250 pieces is not even a risk for them, it will sell out.

And what we have learnt from this release is that many are also sold in advance prior to launch leaving some poor suckers staring at the screen desperately trying to buy within the seconds it is available at launch

Yeah I agree the contingency plan would indeed be to state sold out even if not.
