switched the dial for the wrong one
Another example of how professional they are with their service 😲

I get that the dial has the same number, but surely the engineer would have noticed that the dial they took out of the watch didn't look the same as the one he/she was putting in? I mean it's not a subtle difference...

I guess they just hoped that the customer wouldnt complain, surely many would not have said anything

Got some photos. What do we think? I'm getting the watch sent back to me so I can check it out in person before deciding what to do. I think the lighting is making it look worse than it is (check out the crown - that is brand new, but it looks kind of polished in the photos). The lady I spoke to doesn't really understand why I feel so strongly about this, but they have offered to re-case the watch if I'm not happy with the finishing. Obviously that would make the watch even less original but at least it would have a factory finish. Will hopefully get the watch back Friday.

Agreed you need to see it in the metal to see the extent of the polish work done.

I could be wrong but never felt the Carrera has the sharp case lines if I compare it to a Speedy or a ZEP in my collection, and doesn't have any brushed surfaces at least not on my 360.

It comes down to getting a new case and paying full price for the service or taking the 50% compensation if the polish hasn't had a big impact.

Not sure how it looked it before but that polish would not stop me owning one, but, it has to be down to your eye, it either is “right” or “wrong” and at first glance I would imagine.

Well it's finally back with me. If you look really closely at the reflection on the side of the case then you can tell it's had a light polish, but to be honest it's a good job and the watch looks brand new. I can also report that setting the time is a lot smoother than before - let's say it feels like it's been lubricated with melted butter whereas there was a bit more resistance before when first turning the crown.. All in all, it could be a lot worse, so I'm not going to be sending it back for recasing. Now to keep an eye on the timekeeping over the next 24 hours or so and test the chrono.

One of mine had a ‘resistance’ when turning the crown, dealer greased? the shaft seal and it made a huge difference to the feel.

I wouldn't have said it was that noticeable before, but now it's come back and is smoother, it is. 😀

I suspect it's was just the fact it's never had a service in over 20 years and the oils had solidified a bit.

@imagwai the watch looks great! Let us know how the movement is working. The last thing I'd want to do is send it back!

I'm lucky in that there's a very good watchmaker/AD in my city that is an official TAG Heuer and Omega service centre. They serviced my Omega and did a fantastic job - plus no shipping! Just walk in and drop off/pick-up. Excellent service and great staff. The can also get OEM parts, being an official service centre. Before they serviced TAG's, I had to send in my 2000 for servicing through an AD and there were issues! Very frustrating issues, but in the end I got what I needed. I would hesitate to do that again!

Are you unhappy with the polish? Looks very nice to me. Perhaps some before and after photos would help show your concerns.

I'd specifically requested no polishing as I wanted to keep it original. The photos they sent, to me, looked like it had been overdone. But now it's back, it looks OK. Probably lighting. Still not overly happy with what happened but I'm feeling a bit better about it now the watch is back.

I see. Haven't been following this thread, didn't know about your request.

What do people think about approx. +40 secs after 24 hours? Not quite good enough after a service in my opinion.

Oh wow that is terrible. Lesson learnt, never send a watch to TAG HQ for service.

Seems a bit much, have I heard that things settle in again after being in transit? Or have I been dreaming again.

Ugh...that’s not good. It might just need a regulation, but I know that TAG will require you to take it back to them or they could void the warranty on the work. Hopefully it will settle in???

Wonder if it's magnetized from shipping or something but no, that does not sound like it's within spec.

+40 is too much ::facepalm1:: was it like that before it was serviced ?
Yes, it was similar beforehand - one of the reasons I sent it in.

Oh well, it's going back to TAG again for them to have another go. I've already waited 3 months so can wait a bit longer for them to get it right I guess.
