I do have a horror story about polishing, the brother of a colleague sent his IWC in for service, it came back polished including the parts which were originally brushed (no pictures so can't show it).::facepalm1::

He made a fuss but after a complimentary croc strap didn't take a stand in a more aggressive way.
Damn, I would make a big fuss!
I read about a watchmaker destroying a chronomatic dial once so there’s always a worse story.

The wait is over as today I received an update that work is finished, estimated end of repair was wrong from the start but they prioritized my watch after getting it wrong 3 times in the past year.

Mine (sent end Dec for a service) is still at the workshop. Still estimated early April completion.

My precious is back home, arrived including champagne. Was a scary moment as DHL was at my door at 7 pm when I wasn't home, in the app it stated accepted by me, turns out the neighbors accepted it.

Here is an example of TAG Switzerland's servicing including "New hands, lume, polish."

It is on Ebay for a princely asking of £1000.

I have to be honest, after this service I think it is worth significantly less than average, not 2-3x market value.....

The seller probably thinks he deserves to recoup the cost of the service without realising it's actually devalued the watch.

I hope you fare better @imagwai 🤔
They have said specifically they won't polish the watch and are only replacing the crown and seals. Fingers crossed!

Update as requested😗, although the date change isn't happening within a small window, earliest recorded change at 11.56 pm and latest at 12.08 am, I'm confident the recurring issue looks like it's gone.

A brief update on this thread. I finally got an update from TAG Heuer today on my Carrera which has been in for service since the beginning of January. I received a very apologetic call today to let me know that contrary to my instructions, the watch has received a polish. 🤦 Seems the watchmaker just did the usual service without bothering to check the job notes. 🤬

I'm not sure there's much I can do now, except learn a lesson not to use TAG Heuer for servicing again. On the one hand, this isn't really a vintage watch (yet) and a light polish (which I am assured it is) on a watch that was already in very condition is unlikely to impact the value much, if at all. On the other hand, it's hugely frustrating that my explicit instructions, which I had ensured were on the job sheet, were ignored.

TAG are offering me 50% off the cost of the service by means of compensation. I'm not sure what else I can do at this point given the damage is done. Would you guys call it quits or would you go on the offensive? Seems little to be gained from the latter.

I would take the 50%, as you said it's not vintage.

I wish I could say I'm shocked. Unfortunately all I can say is sorry, man.

Get photos of the watch first and see how bad it is. A light polish isn't the worst thing, but if it's been through a hack job you may as well demand full compensation for both the service and the watch.

FFS! I can't start with anything else. They aren't (supposed to be) a 2-bit watchmaker in some dusty old shop, they're supposed to be a professional outfit, watch manufacturer and service outfit. Agree about taking the compensation as a rule but also yes, I'd ask for photos first to see exactly how much damage they have done. You hear the stories but really hope it isn't actually the case/anymore. It's just very disappointing to hear-especially for you Charlie. Sorry.

Thanks Steve. Yes, very frustrating and disappointing, but I have been assured by the lady who called me today that they won't have worn or damaged any of the edges and that it's a light polish only. As I say, the watch was in ace condition anyway, so a polish wasn't really necessary. Hopefully it'll be minimal, and they'll have just brought it to a nice shine. We shall see.

This sounds like a very good idea just in case.

Sorry to hear about this misfortune for you Charlie, really surprised that TAG seems to keep such low standard in their servicing. Not long ago we read about @YY77 sending his watch for service 200 times since TAG thought service meant "do not fix the issue and just return it to customer".

Thanks Jim. It might not be a big issue to be honest, but I am still fuming about it.

I have asked for some photos - not sure they'll be able to send any, but we'll see.

Do TAG actually relume dials? Only when my SEL went back they switched the dial for the wrong one (the CG1110 has two different dials) and when I complained they put the old one back but they didn't offer to relume it.

I don't know but I doubt it. Seems like they're a volume operation and most things they do follow a standard servicing process.
